An awful lot of money and research has gone in to making what today's riders carry. It isn't some piece of 3x2 or a plank of wood. It is a highly sophisticated and useful tool that can get a better reaction from the horse as opposed to the old whips. Infact it is so far removed from the old whips that it should be rebranded and renamed.
The general public need educating about this and a change in name would take awa the perceived idea that a horse is being "whipped"

Excellent post ...but far to sophisticated for the BHA to rename the w word or "the stick that must not be named!" Agrre Persuader would apease the unknowledgeable do-gooders who would prefer to see a human die than an animal being encouraged to work .
