Perhaps I gave him too much credit for being his own man as Head of Communications.
Perhaps he told the Board ages ago that last week was not the right time to introduce the new rules and that if they went ahead it would be a PR disaster.
Perhaps they chose to ignore him and he lacked the courage of his convictions and gave them an ultimatum.
If that's the case, I wonder if he feels his position is untenable and without the full confidence of the Board in abiding by his advice how can he continue to feel comfortable in his role?
If, on the other hand, he failed to inform the Board of the potential PR disaster looming then he has only himself to blame if he gets the boot this week.
he looked totally knackered last night when giving that statement. Suspect he is doing the best he can in having to represent a board of directors who probably should be restricted to being honorary trustees or patrons of much smaller groups such as the local street Annual Royal Wedding Committee

2.29 Restricting the use of the whip to permitting its use down the shoulder with the jockey’s hands remaining on the reins only is considered to be too restrictive from a safety point of view. The jockeys explained that restricting the use of the whip in this manner would have an adverse effect on their ability in assisting the horse to maintain its balance, particularly in the later stages of a race.

I e-mailed him last night. I don`t know him from Adam but his address is widely available. He replied quite quickly and thanked me for being civil as apparently a lot weren`t being. Mine I considered hostile but not abusive.Didn`t really tell me anything else I didn`t already know but the tone was pleasant. I doubt Roy would be in the unlikely event he replied at all.

Thank you, salmon. In that case I unreservedly withdraw all my calls for him to go.
It seems that perhaps most of the time his hands are tied by his inept colleagues.
It is to be hoped that he does not become the sacrificial lamb as a way of covering for Roy's deficiencies.

Roy is totally aware. His Everest like ego refuses to come down from its pedestal and back down even when he is driving over the cliff and taking everyone with him. Golden rule no. 1 of a CEO or a Chairman. Never admit to the peasants that you made a mistake.

Lucky Lucan, I think you are entitled to say what you want on this forum...but when you are demanding heads it is not appropriate to do that when a) you don't know what you're talking about and b) are doing it from a position of anonymity.
Apart from that - kick on son.
IMO.

The Headmaster, I doff my school cap to your seniority, sir.
Yes, I agree that to be promoting wholesale sackings is not cricket and is at odds with my normal desire to support the underdog.
And yet, there is something about this whole scenario that has brought out the worst in me, and I just know that it's to do with a certain person's apparent arrogance and obstinacy in seeming to ignore the thoughts and desires of the majority of punters.
I apologise if I have tarred his cohorts with the same brush when in fact they might feel just as helpless as most of us do to influence events.

it used to be the case that when **** ups were made gentlemen of substance fell on their own swords, nowadays their fingers have to be prised from their desks kicking and screaming

Yes FD, those were the days when men of principle and higher values than we mere mortals led by example and set standards of decency and probity in their commercial pursuits.

but in the interests of fairness and equanimity as the headmaster seems to be a cheer leader for the status quo maybe he can enlighten us all as to the progress made under the 2 Roys tenureship.

You wouldn't know as you joined five years after me, 'Fat Dodgy', but the user name came about due to a prolonged thread with myself, Bacchanal and minnow which centred around an imaginary school. It was a rather good thread imo. But, as I said, you wouldn't know the FACTS, so I will excuse you. Anyway, this thread isn't about me, you, the whip or Paul Roy. It is about LuckyLucan demanding Struthers' head. I've said my bit, LL has replied with consideration and a touch of remorse - hats off - and good luck to him.

i did indeed salmon. please forgive my presumption HM, I get called a fat coont all the time and have allowed this to colour my judgement.
I too think that its time for a change at the top of racing as this weeks debacle seems to me to be the thin edge of the wedge
