Jockeys are living in the dark ages if they think their association is best led by a former jockey.
They need to get real and employ an internationally-renowned professional negotiator who has only one objective other than kowtowing to the BHA, trainers and owners alike.
Just because someone is a senior jockey does not equip them with all the skills necessary to be representing their best interests.
It might involve an increase in subscriptions guys but at least you will no longer be the subservient party in this modern industry which is what you appear to be at present.
p.s. Don't forget to doff your caps at the BHA today!
Totally correct , they need someone with good negotiating skills and some steel , Darley looks and sounds like a "yes sir , sorry sir whatever you say sir" doughnut.

They'll get the opportunity when Darley goes in November but what are the chances of them doing as LL suggests? Has there ever, in the history of horse racing, been anyone appointed to a senior position within the industry who wasn't already a member of the club?

Or Richard Hughes depending on the outcome of today's meeting. Mind you, you wouldn't want Hughes involved in too many tense negotiations as he'd be chucking his toys out of the pram and storming out at the first sign that he wasn't getting his own way; ACAS would be on permanent standby.

A number of jockeys give the impression these days that they have the intelligence and potentially the negotiating skills to do the job.Unfortunately Darley has never been one of them. Soumillon would be a good bet given his interview on Sat. If you consider that he was both extremely cross, understandably and speaking in his 2nd language that was rather impressive. You probably do need somebody who has retired though as it`s probably a full-time job.

I hope McCoy has more to say today than he said on Saturday's Morning Line, or what he has been quoted as saying in today's RP.
He could have been assertive and said what he thought the rules should be - instead it seems all he said was..."The rules need to tinkered with...If anyone has a will to win, counting in your head is not easy..."
Yes, Tony, but what do you suggest?

Whoever gets the job let's hope the PJA apply a more stringent 'fit and proper person' test than the BHA did when appointing its new CEO. FFS Paul Bittar is an Australian!

Agree with comment about being led by a representative who is a professional negotiator and who understands the need to formally structure these kind of discussions.
I think also they need to go to whole hog and bring a lawyer with knowledge of European labour law from one of the Magic circle firms to their meeting today.
It will lay it on the line for the BHA/Jockey "club" that it now longer a master & servant relationship they are dealing with, but a commercial one where members of the different professions involved contribute to the overall success of the product - "Horse Racing".

Good to see they have taken a grown up along with them today in the shape of John Gosden. They are in all sorts if they are relying on Darley and Hughes after his shambles of an interview on 5Live Friday morning.

Just seen a photo of the jockey representatives arriving at the BHA and to be honest it looks like a lad's stag night out.
For a trainer, Johnston, to be there in the opposite corner to the jockeys and representing the BHA and for another trainer, Gosden, to be there on the jockeys' side of the table I just find totally bizarre and beyond anything I can imagine taking place outside of horse racing.
Whoever, conceived the idea of Johnston having a role on the BHA just fathoms belief. What was the rationale behind that decision.
Everything and everyone connected to the BHA needs to be got rid of, wipe the slate clean and start afresh with a completely new concept as to what is best for horse racing in this Country.
