Yes telephone. Contrary to public perception, the people want what the people get!
Report GAZO • October 16, 2011 1:30 PM BST
if public perception has caused this trouble with the whip jump racing will be stuffed when they go after that
Report telephone • October 16, 2011 1:31 PM BST
it all started a few years back with all the celebrity magazines that were churned out, nobody was really that interested in how celebrities lived 30 years ago until the papers and the mags told us that this WAS what you want and here we are now, celebrity culture galore and you are told what to think daily !

"public perception" is the attitude of the public to a situation whether it has any basis in reality or not , education is the answer , not knee jerk reactions to pander to the great unwashed mob , and in the process ruin a sport and deprive people of their income , 99% of the "public" watch a maximum of two races a year , personally I think we should just ignore fools , and ban McCrirrick from ever appearing on a TV screen again .

There was very little concern about the use of the whip among the people RFC want to target until this ham-fisted PR stunt turned it into a media issue, imo...

I understand what you're saying and agree with the long overdue ban but,

what I'm trying to say is this, public perception is there in most cases (especially in racing's case) BECAUSE some journalists (and editors) decide that this is what people think and then they print it and it becomes 'fact' .

i think these journalist should be telling the public that it is ok to make the kids walk the dog, that chinese takeaways more than once per week is healthy and that men do not have to turn the sport off when we have guests imo

No idea , I love racing , all my mates & work colleagues know this. Other than Grand National day I have never heard them speak about racing to me or other people.

Yet another 21st century malaise .

Public perception of fat cat bankers , our troops in foreign countries , liberal court sentences etc .... possibly

THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED ONE JOT WHAT DOES OR DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THIS MINORITY INTEREST SPORT.
Report telephone • October 16, 2011 2:09 PM BST
totally agree and my point exactly,

on grand national day, just because a few journalists decided (rightly) that it was not good viewing re the aerial shot of the dead horse, suddenly it was blown out of all proportion about 'public perception' and how a few editors saw it as a good story etc !

Telephone, if the simpletons in charge of British Racing are so unbelievably guileless that they thought it was a good idea to make drastic changes to the way this sport is run the week before a showpiece occasion,, then you surely can't blame the media for covering that stupidity for all it's worth...

Wonder what the public perception of racing is when they see the likes of the gambled El Dececy hosing up?
Report telephone • October 16, 2011 2:14 PM BST
Millhouse

the timing was wrong but they are basically dancing to whatever tune the 'public perception' goons are playing for them !

Regarding public perception and being led by stupid journalists.
Millions stopped eating butter, because they were told it MAY be bad for you.So they switch to some yellow goo that comes in a plastic box and spreads straight from the fridge, without having any idea whatsoever as to what the yellow goo contains.
There's your public perception(ignorance).
Remember the majority never have seen, and never will see,a cushion whip,or ever know the power and ,in some cases, stubborness of a racehorse.
