Flat is like playing bingo, the jumps like playing poker.

100% jumps.

One thing I HATE about flat racing is those crappy 5-6f sprints every saturday. The same horses run every time and every week a different one wins! No consistency whatsoever..... but I suppose the draw decided who wins half the races.

Jumps by an absolute country mile.

Flat is repetitive tedium. I don't think I have ever been excited about attending a flat meeting. I must go to 10 times more jumps meetings than flat.

I really struggle to see the appeal of the flat.

I find the jumps very difficult to win at, I only bet at Chelts and the GN and that's only for fun. I do well on the flat, it's easier to find decent priced winners as the races are more competative

Im sure ive written this beforePlain

The Flat season has a rhythm, its like spending a spring and summer and early fall on a series of dates with a beautiful woman via the festivals

The Jumps season however seems you are stuck most of the winter in a monastery eating bread and water with monks only to be let out for 4 days with a pair of Brazilian Hookers, a Crate of Booze and a bag of Columbians finest

Although I do enjoy the big flat meetings my overwhelming preference is for the jumps - always has been and always will.

I know what people mean about the jumps are about cheltenham, but that is mainly driven by the media and c4.

Their are so many good jump meetings between now, march and beyond.

Flat by miles.

Any top class jump race that is not a handicap (are there are very few of them) is not even important in itself , just a pointer towards Cheltenham (except maybe the KingGeorge).People whine that the best flat horses only run for 1 or 2 seasons but at least they run fairly often while they are around. Cheltenham dwarfs everything else so completely that the very best chasers will run maybe 2 or 3 times before it.

Newburys hennessey  meeting is one of my favs, always go the 3 days. It doesnt have a lot of prizemoney or graded races but the quality is very, very high.

About 1 mile away, i live in newbury town centre.

I have been in your home town this weekend.

Surprised you have not been to newbury yet, it is one of the best tracks for the viewer.

Jumps by a country mile for me , the Hennessey meeting is a real feel good factor and reminds you what you've got to look forward to for the next 6 months.

As with everything though it's each to their own and life would be dishwater if we all liked the same thing  Happy

Jumps much the best

Low class jump racing is much more appealing than low class flat racing

The flat jocks are a right miserable lot too.

Tallywagger - It might just be me, but low class jumping is preferable to high class flat racing.

Not just you Carver ; I prefer a Plumpton class 3 or 4 handicap chase to the flat, even top quality flat.

Love the jumps its the progression through Bumper to chaser over the seasons. Chelt do overshadow other meetings but if you ignore that then those 3mile chases at Carlisle or a Nov Hdl at Newbury just bloody fantastic.

The worst quality jump meeting is still ahead of the best flat racedays in my opinion.

The first thing I thought when they announced the champions day date was that it must be a mistake as it clashes with Cheltenham. I struggle to see why anyone would have chosen a day at Ascot today over a day at Cheltenham. I even prefer to go summer jumping on Derby day.

It is strange though as I know people who have the complete opposite view.

Chepstow, Chetltenham, Chepstow, Aintree/Wincanton, Ascot/Wetherby, Exter, Sandown/Wincanton, Bangor (peddlers?), Cheltenham, Ascot, Haydock, Newbury/Newcastle, Sandown/Aintree, Cheltenham, Newbury, Ascot, Kempton, Chepstow, Leopardstown - plus all the terrific smaller, midweek meetings, and from ireland - Zilzal, it is worth spending all summer in prison to have that run to christmas!

You look at a Plumpton class 3 or 4 handicap chase, you look at form but forget about the draw.

You look at a Plumpton class 3 or 4 handicap chase and you forget about dodgy watering.

You look at a Plumpton class 3 or 4 handicap chase you do not worry about being boxed in.

You look at a Plumpton class 3 or 4 handicap chase and dont even look at the form as you know each horse.......

IS - agree with all the above! I do not bet AP on the flat, but how do you factor those elements into long range AP betting?!
