Andrew Balding said so much sense in todays RP when he said it should have been trialled during the AW season when less media attention is upon racing and its effects could have been better analysed. The only downside to that would appear to be that so few dignitaries within racing seem capable of listening to others who are in the frontline such as trainers and jockeys.

Paul Roy needs to resign, or at least admit he is very much to blame and caused a huge embarrassement to the sport he is supposed to be 'governing'.
Problems like this come from the top - so he must take the blame. This is the same guy that didnt think it was a 'conflict of interests' to become a major shareholder in Betfair - a complete and utter joke, and there are more shady episodes in his closet - including the way he treated Harry Findlay in his legal issues with the sport - again, a PR and moral disgrace. These things probably seem a good idea from his boardroom, but in the light of day - im afraid he just hasnt a clue. In the same way The FA are to blame for the shambles of English footy a few years ago. If you asked 1000 'football people' who should be the next England manager a few years ago, how many would have said 'hmmm Steve Mclaren' - haha, id estimate less than 100, less than 10%. Its the same here. If you were to ask 1000 racing people, who would have agreed to these rules- probably less than 10% again! In fact, if you asked these 1000 people who they preferred running the sport - a stuck up clueless businessman like Roy, are someone from a racing background or proper interests in the sport - the results again would be decisive. |

A person with a large ego will never admit they are wrong.

Good point ftp, the sport does need someone from outside who isn't part of a factional interest. Roy may not be the right man though. The sport is also quick to criticise but the benefit of hindsight is working here too as quite a few higher profile people stayed quiet until this week. Richard Hughes even advocated giving the rules a chance in his column last week,I believe ?

This was feeble beyond belief.
Firstly, as I have pointed out previously and Celtic Son has endorsed above, RUK have done nothing but fuel the fire from the outset. If Roy had anything about him he would have challenged Luck over the issue. He did nothing. Where was the defence of the rules which they had taken months to devise? There was none. All we got was I have a had a lovely chat with Richard Hughes. Why not just hand Richard Hughes a blank piece of paper, ask him what he wants and then just change all the rules on Monday? |
