I went to place £200 at 9/2 on a horse on Monday (Early Bird) in a Shop belonging to one of the big three. The member of Staff has marked the price on (I really am not sure if he flashed the bet) and I have given him the money but before acceptance he says he needs to phone up, he phones up and the call takes around 15 seconds to be answered (it is now roughly 30 seconds since I presented the bet to him) he passes the bet details on but is told I can have the bet but only at 4/1?
Now to me that bet has been presented as £200 at 9/2 and that is what should be looked at - it is not my fault they have taken that length of time to consider it.
This is one of the big three, I have contacted CS and been told that is how they operate - to me that stinks. As someone who has worked in a Betting Shop for a prolonged period we were always taught to flash (run through the camera in pre EPOS days) or scan as a void (EPOS) the bet straight away with the price written on so as you had proof of when the bet was presented.
They are scoundrels the whole lot of them. Not only that, many of the tellers are totally ignorant when it comes to two areas; Horseracing and People skills. I enter the shops only when absolutely necessary . What other shop/business do you know where employees will take your money without making eye-contact,or a word of thanks? It happens all the time in these places.

The tone of the Customer Services department is very poor as well, the price is the one once the phone is answered - not when I present the bet.
Very poor.

There should be a notice of some sort in each Bookmakers letting customers know how much they will take without having to refer for authorisation. That way everyone knows the score and the possible problems that may be encountered.
Whilst waiting on a decision - if the horse had drifted to 6/1 cadizza would you have accepted 9/2 or made a swift exit from the shop ?
Not saying you would but some people would do so.

Fully agree with you aberdeen - that is why I handed the cash over.
I would probably of had a moan, thats the game ain't it - just don't like the tone of the CS as they are basically owning up to doing what you imply many would if it drifted.

Fair enough Cadizza - never read that you had handed the cash over.
Agree with comments above re the staff - How the majority of them get jobs is beyond me? - Know nothing about sport or betting - treat customers like **** etc
