Place backers badly served by new whip rules

While jockeys may ride vigorously if they have a chance to win, my perception is that quite a few jockeys tend to be going easy if a place is the best that they can achieve. I may be talking through my pocket but I'm convinced that I have been stuffed on my place bets due to this.

I think I may give place bets a miss in future.

I don't think the new whip rules are any good and I'm not convinced that there was a major outcry over whipping in any case, certainly not from those of us who follow racing, and those that don't weren't watching anyway  - bizarre, and just another thing that may turn regular punters off the game.
