Dettori thinks riders should have been given some time to adjust, but insists the changes are key to improving the image of racing.
"The change in the rules was overdue. We have to show the wider public that racing is a fun, beautiful sport and not cruel," he told Press Association Sport.
"Hopefully people who know nothing about the sport will see that it's not about being cruel and that we have stronger guidelines.
"We're all going to need time to adjust to the new rules. I think a longer bedding in period would have been good, but the rules are there now.
"We've basically been told to ride one way, in my case for 25 years, and then you have to change overnight.
"It will take some time to adjust, but the rules had to change and I think in the long run it's better for the sport."
Yet another quote allegedly from the mouth of Frankie though I can't help thinking it bears all the hallmarks of something Paul Struthers would dream up.
Mr Dettori, alias mouthpiece for the charlatans at the BHA.
Dettori was on BBC Breakfast this morning and told Chris Hollins that the maximum number of whip strikes now allowed was 'five per race'! Some spokesman when he doesn't even know the new rules...
Was also trying to drum up business for Ascot on Saturday, pleading with viewers to attend. Anyone know of how advance ticket sales have gone, is it possible RFC could be on the brink of another major disaster?

Rod Street was spouting on about how great this coming Saturday was going to be for UK racing,
rambling on about how many customers would be attending through the novel idea of advertising
on the side of London Buses, should be using out of work graduates as Sandwich board Men and
Women that might drag a few more in. As Delboy might have said "what a plonker"

What's interesting about the card at the weekend is that the racing really isn't all that much better than what was on offer at this meeting in the past, apart from the fact that the two 2yo races are missing.
I'd argue that for the purist, the questions have already been pretty much answered in regard to the older horses on display on Saturday, and that at this time of year, perhaps the real area of interest is in speculating on which are the best two year olds/future three year olds.
Racing for Change, in general, have been absolutely clueless thus far, imo, and I fear that Saturday may well prove to be another underwhelming initiative, for all Dettori, Balding and co's inevitable cheerleading...

It looks like the weather will be ok this weekend, I imagine it being such early days in "phase 1" will be the reason for underwhelming attendance and press coverage.
