I've been betting on horses for far longer than I care to remember and during that time I've experienced fleeting moments of exhilaration, optimism and temporary material reward  though invariably followed soon after with despairing, desperate and dark episodes of helplessness and misfortune.

However, throughout the good and the bad times I've never, ever not loved horse racing regardless of whether I've indulged myself in a wager of some description. Just the spectacle of man and beast competing, sometimes against each other and others, but often against the natural elements with both partners attempting to overcome all manner of adversity in those final strides to the winning line.

Despite the ups and downs, the highs and lows, I've never thought there would come a day when I'd turn my back on racing.
Yet, that day came yesterday. I can't explain it but for some reason or other this new set of whip rules has brought out the rebel in me. I'm fed up of being told what to do in life.

And now, in order to appease a minority view amongst the racing fraternity, I will have to throw my years of form analysis out of the window and try to adopt a new method of finding winners based on understanding how horses will adapt to these new riding styles.

I'm sorry BHA but you've turned me away from the sport I loved. It's just not worth the effort any more. If I want to have a bet I'll switch to football or the like. I don't profess to be a big time punter so you probably won't notice my absence but it saddens me to see the homogenized state of British horseracing with no-one accepting overall responsibility for the state it finds itself in.

Good luck everybody.
Lucky

I'm sorry dunlaying but it's a matter of principle. Some one has to make a stand.  But thanks for your past support.

I'll still be looking in here and posting but sadly I will not be posting any horse tips.

My Lord, a well written piece by a seemingly well educated person.

I have been involved in backing, owning and on the periphery of

training horses for arounde 60 years but never in that time have I had

the feelings for the sport\industry that you express.

I sympathise with you and hope you will reconsider

your decision about turning your back on something which is obviously

so close to your heart.   Good luck with whatever you do in the future.[;)]

chelsea, I cannot understand how anyone can keep describing fellow forumites as

Rats, Vermin eating our own entrails, sounds to me like someone who might have

a seriously large chip on his or her shoulder, great shame. I hope you had a

pleasant day out yesterday at the races.
