I haven't watched the ride but the fact the bf sp was so much under the industry sp tells you it was expected. In that instance fox would know he was also expected to deliver.

I will watch the race later and re-post but I think the money talks.

But for sure I agree unless the horse is also disqualified the rule is completely unworkable.

rusty... have a look, it wasnt an obvious attempt to cheat and break the rules to win imo. if that ride was worth a 15 day ban the game is finished.

The morons who administer this sport are doing more to destroy it than any extremists ever have. The whips that are carried now are like Ken Dodds tickling sticks.

An eight stone jockey trying to control a half ton of live animal with a feather duster is barely an exageration. The modern whips are so light that even an above shoulder action barely causes pain to the horse which is high on adrenaline.

The previous rules were perfectly adequate and this bowing to people who have no idea which end of a horse bites is a disgrace. The draconian penalties are typical of the PC idiots trying to justify their existence.

God forbid that any jockey should be seriously injured or worse if an accident occurs because a jockey failed to break the rules even though his horse was swerving or hanging.

Common sense has flown out of the BHA window along with the so called improvement to the sport by the RFC muppets. As someone has already pointed out they should prepare themselves for lawsuits.

They have no hiding place if such an accident occurs and at the same time have not a leg to stand on by banning a jockey for failing to steer a straight line once the quota is used up.

i agree with trusty, first thing i looked at at when i saw fox had hit the horse 11 times was opening price 12/1 and sp 15/2, money was down and fox would know this, he knows he has hit the horse over his limit but did it to ensure the win, for which im sure he will be rewarded and will take his punishment.
Think about it if a yard has a horse they fancy and are going to put money down on it,the jockey could be asked to break the rules if in with a good chance for which he would be rewarded, the yard would then have a horse they fancy that could well have a distinct advantage in the closing stages with the jockey hiting it as many times as he feels he needs to get the job done, not saying this is going to happen but build in how easy it will be for jockeys to have excuses on "non triers" and the game is going to be more corrupt than ever, its a joke!

mouth pieces like mccrirrick are entitled to their opinion but he was paid decent money today to spout total uneducated rubbish today.

he even had the audacity to praise the BHA for the success of the rule change and the fantastic difference it had made to the sport after an hour of racing.

As I said yesterday most jocks have a low IQ and can only count to four at best.
This has got to be the most stupid rule ever.....by Christmas there will be no jumps boys available to ride....they will all be banned!
How can you expect a lazy 3 mile chaser to be hit so few times?.......this rule is an ass!! Wake up BHA and get real.

scotboyass isn't the whip the reason a horse will swerve and hang?, jockeys usually put down their whips to correct them.

So why bother with them?

God forbid that any jockey should be seriously injured or worse if an accident occurs because a jockey failed to break the rules even though his horse was swerving or hanging.

The whip is often used to make the horse tighten a rival up on the rail. Without the excuse of the whip the rider would be forced to use the reigns to prevent it happening as any other action would be blatant cheating.

You don't see this as an opportunity to identify 'lazy 3 miles chasers' who won't run without being whipped and to bet accordingly then? (ie to lay them)

Spot on Scotboyass. The BHA,having asked some people for their views on whip use, changed the rules arbitrarily.
They should have proposed the changes and given a couple of months for interested parties to respond. Once again they have displayed arrogance and incompetence.

As regards horses breaking the rules in big races or when the money's down, my solution is a complete ban but in the absence of that the penalties should be directly proportional to the incentive to break the rules. e.g. the derby might carry a 6 month ban.

On the contrary, if there was a complete ban we'd no longer have horses given airshots on easy runs while having the life thrashed out of them when the money's down.

Feck,I think you need to forget about conspiracy theories otherwise you look as stupid as the idiotic administrators.Do you really think jockeys deliberately us a whip to endanger colleagues?[smiley:crazy]

It does not need a whip or tug on the reigns to get a horse to alter course,a squeeze with a leg or a slight shift in balance is all that is required, obviously you are not a rider.

You're talking my language scotboyass. People who say the whip is required to guide the horse are all w@nkers.

Harry Bentley stuck to the rules perfectly, using his whip only as a steering aid
He missed riding a decent winner by a short head

Connections and backers of Oetzi missed having a winner too.

They missed because Kieren Fox decided to flagrantly break the rules (11 cracks of the whip) and cheat.

Cheats will continue to deprive jockeys, connections and punters of rightful winners,
while people and forumites continue to peddle the softly, softly approach.

The punishments for cheating should be harsher

yes but its easy to say the jockey has whipped the horse to many times thats fact, its harder to prove...and this sounds stupid "that a jockey has tried too hard in a race to try to win", they could just say they got got caught up i the moment trying to win.
you will have jockeys getting banned for longer for trying really hard to win than jockeys not trying at all, what a complete waste of time this game will be

Jockeys (like Dettori) that can settle a horse really well would flourish under a complete ban.

The whip is necessary as a correctional aid when a split second decision is required, the other methods are not much use on a swerving or hanging horse.

I was referring to how easy it would be for a jockey to encourage a horse to alter course to cause interference not correct a wayward half ton of hanging or swerving animal.

what poppydog is saying the jockey on the second remained within the rules the winning jockey didn't which beggars belief that breaking the rules deliberately still allows you to keep the race ahead of connections who didn't bend the rules.
Not to mention many punters of the 2nd horse were robbed of their money because of a jockey breaking the rules, disqualification for all concerned is the only answer.

Feck if anyone thinks the game is less than straight now,a total ban would open a can of worms the likes of which would destroy any trust from punters.

Result, punters would bet on other sports, accidents would certainly increase.nap

Hitting your horse 11 times instead of a max 7

A very poor analogy could be caught doing 110mph in a 70mph zone
There's very little excuse

Victory was surely obtained by breaking the rules
I just feel sorry for connections of the runner up

the dealer, exactly. He won races he shouldn't have and wouldn't have had a ban been in place. You can't blame someone for cheating when the rules encourage it.
