Peter Monteith? Can't recall a massive gamble being landed on one of his though.
No well before his passing sure it was a massive gamble on a saturday on one of his 
Bill Pearce.

Father Hayes the day's 'steamer', landed a big gamble in tremendous style.
Always close up, he quickened into the lead three furlongs from home and soon stole a march on his rivals.
Shown the whip below the distance, his rider was going to take no chances as the pack closed, and drove him right out to the line.
So delighted was his rider with this victory, that he punched the air as if he had just won the Derby. (4/1 Jt-Fav)
