The hands and heels last race at York was a dreadful spectacle and unfortunately I forgot to check it was one. So I was on Bowser's Brave and I was saying to myself 'Well go on, use the whip' as it hi the front and idled . Because he couldn't use the whip the horse lost the race. If the whip was banned we would get that frustration all the time.

I'm not making any judgements on the rights or wrongs of the whip but these races are to teach kids that it's not always the first resort when you want to get your horse to quicken. Let's just say they are in an actual race and drop their whip, are they suppose to pull the horse up then or put to use what they learn in these kind of races? Get the basics right first and then worry about the other stuff later.
As I'm sure you already know, nobody is saying whips aren't needed and they certainly aren't being banned and if a horse tries to run out on a bend then a few slaps down the shoulder is a useful aid. They are more often than not also used to keep the horse going at full speed rather than to actually get it going at full speed in the first place.

Not many horses have 'gears'.
I suppose we must make an exception with Roberto, in the Derby, to your point ...
But, as they say - there is an exception to every rule.
