Hi, I'm new at betting on horses and so far I've only bet on the horses with the lowest odds or the recommended horses from Timeform. That didn't work well for me.
So I started backing "To Be Placed" instead, which went even worse.

What should I be looking for when betting on horses ?
Any useful tips ?

Thanks

Find a horse that won't win, and then lay it.

Only one can win, all the rest lose.

Its easier to pick 'losers' than winners.

Start studying for 12 months 12 hour days, paper trading and see if you're anygood keep a record for that period, then presumably if you've got enough capital untold riches.Cool[;)]

Sorry, Piry - but if you have to ask - and especially about the basics - then you 'will always be a million'.

-  and in plain English, that means 'a lamb to slaughter'.

This game is tough enough, even when you have half an idea...... and, even then,  many kid themselves that they have that  - when they haven't.

Sorry, giggolo, but I disagree  -

I could study Mandarin Chinese for the rest of my days -

BUT - I also know that I would NEVER, ever, get any nearer with it.

i have been studing mandarin for last year and can honestly say konechi wa

we all have to start somewhere, we all make mistakes, luck is involved..I will tell you a story..I dated this dolly about 4 years ago..no idea about punting, but knew I loved a dabble..well one day I had to drop her off to home on way to work..i stopped of in a laddies to do a lucky 15, she followed me in there and asked about 10 questions about it and I just said it is a 4 horse combo and if you kop it pays dividends..she went off and handed over a slip, i chuckled to myself thinking she has no clue and i was 1.5 to have a in double minimum..well as you can tell my 15 went west..she called me up later and said she had got all 4 up!!..not only that, the next day she landed another and the following day got a treble up!..her theory was, to keep backing horses who have won lto with a jock she had heard off..ir fallon / frankie or my god Mr. Robinson

gl on your mission mate, we all have had to start somewhere

You sure you've been studying Mandarin? I thought that "konichiwa" was a Japanese greeting rather than Chinese.

Hi Piry, iam a bit worried for you that by the sounds of it you are going 2 follow other peoples tips and not your own? I would strongly advise you against that mate, unless that u no someone that is a succesfull pro gambler of horse racing. I was brought into this game by 2 very succesfull semi pro gamblers of horse racing and was given alot of very sound advice on how 2 make a gd profit from it, with my main thing being flat racing. As for giving u some tips: you need 2 be able 2 read the form book and understand it. Watch and record as much racing as u can, the form book does not see everthing in a race. You need 2 have an eye for racing, as in my experience a horse that does it in the eye normally does it for u in the pocket, in a gd profit way. Dont get involved in betting a lot of short price horses, i personally dont play at less than 7/4, this year i have only bet 1 horse at that price and she was an established top class mare,(Midday in the Nassau at Goodwood) a race she has won 3years in a row. Set your self a min and max bet and stay true 2 that, also set yourself a min price bet, ie; dont take less than evens if u are happy 2 take that low a price. Personally i dont get involved in AW racing or low grade racing of any kind, in my experience the better quality racing is far more genuine. In betting on anything u must be very selective and always try and get the best price u can, getting the best VALUE is very important. Hopefuuly these are a few things 2 help u with your betting, but by the sounds of it u need 2 learn a lot more about horse racing before u step in with any serious bets. Best of luck mate.

You obviously haven't learnt from your experience.
With regard to hoarse racing ITCANTBEDONE!

Never ever bet on anything that breathes or is controlled by anything that breathes!

Mr Watchit, your valued 2nd opinion is greatly appreciated!

slicer.... what does that leave you with??
Report Millerracing67 • October 7, 2011 3:41 PM BST
In my EXPERIENCE it can be done, and have been for a long time.
As for your not betting on anything that breathes, then u cant be betting on much, if anything at all? So why are u on betfair?
It would seem that u have not been very succesfull with your betting and shuold call it a day as soon as mate, bet only for fun would be my advice for you.

Good for u mate. Then u should use your "MONEY"!!! to take your lady shopping at the wkend and leave the betting 2 the big boys. U can always nip into the books and have a lucky 15 on for a bit of fun betting, which u should stick 2. All the best.

Just follow TOM SEGAL(pricewise in the racing post) - and you will show a profit - you need to make sure you get the best prices advertised. This is not as easy as it sounds.
Good Luck

Hi - to anyone who cares - i have been a follower of pricewise for over 9yrs and am showing a profit of £23,930 - granted i am on to a lot of replacement accounts as most of the bookies dont bar you but merely severely restrict the amounts you can get on
Good Luck to all
