CONNECTIONS of Workforce were on Friday happy with the state of the ground at Longchamp as Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old prepares for a historic second straight Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory on Sunday.
Sir Michael Stoute had issuedconcerns over the drying ground earlier in the week, but Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, gave a more positive bulletin on Friday. He said: "We had someone walk the course for us today. The intention is to run if we can.
"They have put 10mm on and there is a chance that they will re-evaluate on Saturday night as well to see if they need to do a little adjusting. It should be good, safe ground hopefully. It's been well documented if it came up absolutely firm he wouldn't run. He is travelling to Paris.
"The ground was on the easy side of good and there is a good cover of grass. We are positive about it. He has a good draw [8] and if we could repeat the same scenario as last year that would be fine."
France Galop Director General Hubert Monzat took the opportunity to assure connections that the ground at Longchamp will be "fair for all" prior to the draw for the 90th running of the prestigious contest
He said: "I would like to reassure all racing professionals, and especially those connections of horses with an aptitude for softer ground that we will present a surface which is fair for all, and that the whole undertaking has been carried out with the utmost professionalism."
Monzat said that the ground was "between good and soft" after another 10mm of water had been added on Thursday night, and that heexpected to race on good ground on both days of the meeting beginning Saturday.
In the wake of the draw favourite Sarafina, who had been as short as 11-4, has been pushed out to as big as 9-2 after being handed stall 13. So You Think, who races from stall 14, was also pushed out to 5-1 (from 4) with a number of firms.
Masked Marvel, supplemented for €100,000 was on Friday nibbled to 12-1 (from 14), while Japanese raider Hiruno D'Amour was also backed into a general 14-1 (from 16).

Thanks AD,not having an anti RP rant but it does seem a disgrace that it takes them so long to "get a story".
They report on fluctuations in the markets and go on about doubts about WF,RM etc because of ground fears.
They talk about drifts etc,who causes them?[>o][>o]

Stand by for some interesting reports on the Longchamp ground from senior jockeys...
Gerald Mosse described the Longchamp ground as "good" Jarnet and Pasquier both described ground as "soft". Peslier and Crastus went for "good to soft" with Mendizabal opting for "good"
Bear in mind that we're racing down middle of track. Rail will be taken down tomorrow and that fresher ground walks faster
