He could have turned down the request for the interview. Nobody wants him to be a comedian, if he agrees to an interview then he should should show respect to the viewers (some whom will be genuinely intersted in how he is) and the presenter.

Agree with every word.  Few things more tiresome than sports people who have an eye on a MEEJAH job when they retire mugging the camera at every turn.
