Dear Fellow Punters,

It's come to the stage where we are being all taken for mugs by trainers/jockeys/owners i.e. those in the inner sanctum. Punters and punters alone are keeping the racing game alive. A massive percentage of big races are sponsered by leading bookmakers who are absolutely draining the life out of punters these days. I know that horses are run for those that own them and not for punters to make money but lets face it the game is corrupt and it's getting worse...I propose an all out strike for a Saturday in October...and see how the layers and those who are raking it in from laying dead meat get on.

Yours Sincerely
OnTheMachine

I have owned or part owned horses for over 10 years. Can someone tell me where this inner sanctum as I have never found it. Over the years we have had a few gambles on our horses when they look like they have had a great chance and some have come off while the majority, for various reasons have failed. Additionally, sometimes our horses have won when we thought they had no chance.
The problem is that most horses are inconsistent and the older ones have been patched up and it's not possible to be 100% certain how they will perform.
I do object to being made out by On The Machine that I am some sort of parasite living off the stakeholders. It costs £20k a year just to run a horse and he has to be pretty decent to win half that in prize money. Doesn't that make me a stakeholder too?

At 0700 hours this morning, Metropolitan Police Pro-Active Support Team backed up by the BHA Integrity Department smashed their way into the home of a well-known anarchist and arrested him on suspicion of inciting punter disobedience and conspiring with others to cause civil unrest.

Officers were seen leaving the premises with several bin bags of losing betting slips. As the home occupant was led into a police van he could be heard shouting, "I've got lots of friends on Betfair and they won't let you get away with this!"

Also - you need a clear idea of what you are aiming to achieve. IF this does catch on you will need to explain what the strike is about - so far the only reasons on here are cobbled together assertions about the nature of the "inner sanctum"

I admire your intentions OTM. But it simply wouldn't work.
Gamblers don't do collective activism. They do everything for themselves, and for money.
A little campaign got going on Facebook after Betfair upped the premium charge. And, to a degree, it worked. The liquidity on here dived and surged on the d aq.
Then the main campaign players disappeared as quickly as they emerged. All the other grievances and issues they discussed were quickly forgotten once they had started cashing in again.

Everybody should look up the Panorama documentary on YouTube...it's under Bent Horse Racing...it's in 6 parts and very few people have viewed the clips...

Every time I look at it it amazes how slow the Jockey Club were to act. If they feared foe their lives which I'm sure was a risk that had to have entered the equation they should have gone straight to the police...Punters were backing dead meat for years and the finger was pointed more so at National Hunt jockeys more so than Flat jockeys...The words "a whole generation" were used. That's not to say that flats jockeys were in on the act.

My firm opinion is that races are not fixed but that lots of favourites are being stopped...If races were being fixed wholesale the arse would have fallen out of the game a long time ago.

Any thoughts on this?

Fair play to OTM i have often thought of putting up a thread like this. Certain races i have seen in Ireland this year have been particulary bad with the with fancied horses travelling strongly till the last and then apparently finding nothing under a less than animated jockey. Then the stewards give the jock/trainer a slap on the wrist. If the livelyhood of said persons was brought into question by lenghtly bans these situations would happen less often. The pressure for change, in sport comes from the money that funds it and public opinion. If betfairs turnover is affected by boycotts the natural thing for it to do would be to ask for more transparency and fairness. Im in.
