Having read fallons earlier post this has put me off a little bit. I've got a few grand stashed away in savings and I was looking into buying a syndicate in a horse (Amical Risks)
The wife is telling me to stay clear but i really want to give it a try
Does anyone on here have shares and can give any advice? I'm not expecting to get my money back, but would be interesting. The sport has grown on me over the last few months (with the exception of chase events) lol
The people running the syndicates are skimming off a lot of money. If you paid £100 a month they'd pay £20 towards training fees, farrier, vet etc and keep £80 for themselves ,very similar to what the fatcats at Oxfam do.

its cheaper than syndicates imo. 2k per yr for the below and i suppose its a minimal share in 8 or 9 horses. in a syndicate of say 6 people it would be more expensive than that for 1 horse.

its worth looking around, and 1k for a 12th share is an absolute rip off for that horse. there will be much better deals out there....
or buy a greyhound (NAP)

Agree with Mandeville get a geyhound , they run more often, its a hell of a lot cheaper, they don't get injured as much and are a lot more affectionate.(when they've finished racing you can take them home)

there must be a lot more than 6 people in that syndicate. approx 20k per year per horse. 9 horses = 180k per year. divide that between 6 people and each would be paying 30k per year.
there are lots of syndicate clubs around now where you pay about £100 per month and syndicates are restricted to between 10 and 20 members.
sorry I can't recommend anything as I don't have any inside knowledge of what is good and what is bad.
I started in ownership being involved in some of these club syndicates and you do feel like an owner because there are not too many members in the syndicates and you can go along to the course and the stable anytime you like.
I was in one club where we had a hurdler that was afraid to jump hurdles and I was in another syndicate where the person who run the club was warned off after an investigation by jockey club security. another syndicate run by a top trainer was also a disaster as the horse we were involved in never saw a racecourse but we were conveniently shuffled into another syndicate meaning we paid exactly the same but now had 1/24th share.
eventually I found a decent syndicate (£100 per month) where we had some fun although the horse was rubbish.

i dont think i explained that well outpost. i was sayin in the chasing gold syndicate you have a very small share in each horse and it costs 2k per yr to be a part of it. i was tryin to compare that with ownin a horse with 5 other people where he would have a 1/6th share, it would be more expensive for the latter

does the 1k cover any expenses beyond the initial purchase price? 12k for that nag?....would be lucky to fetch 500 at auction.....best bet is to buy a horse in training at auction....seen some fair deals....buy a respectable horse from a bad trainer and give it to a good trainer.
owning a horse in UK is as wise an investment as loaning money to a drug addict

Thanks for your comments, Yes I'm aware the chances of a return are very slim, thats not a problem. It's just being involved with a horse and everything that goes with it that excites me. However, the wife might go into early labour if she found out! I suppose what she dont know wont hurt her lol

you have to remember that a lot of these clubs are run by chancers just out to make money from mugs. (not talking about koo here by the way because we can see that his club has regular winners)
these folk buy the cheapest rubbish that they can find at the sales, sometimes from a few hundred up to a couple of thousand pounds, and then syndicate it for as much as £12k (12 members paying £1k each for the horse and then monthly fees on top) these racing club horses regularly finish towards the rear in most of their races and constantly show why they were available so cheaply.
I only know of koos club through these forums but the only other club I have been involved with that wasn't set up to rip off customers is heart of the south racing. they had rubbish horses when I was there but they have much better horses now.

Chasing Gold are a bunch of chancers mate...you don't know wether you have got 2% 5% or a hair on its arrse
I wouldnt send them a brass farthing mate.
Far better to do as we do...get a few pals together..set it up yourself as weatherbys are brilliant and very very helpfull
Register your name and colours and dont pay extortionate amounts while your horse is at livery yards
Much the best way imo
BTW this guy was telling everyone what a mugs game this was yesterday having been on here ONE day ( under this name [;)] )
And now he is the next Sheikh Mo
what a tool

Sebster, the best syndicate by miles is Middleham Park racing 67 winners last year and various ways you can invest,i,e down payment and say £62 per month,or some are a one off payment [average £500} for 12 months involvement, google them for all the details and how much and which horses are on there, you also get invites to various stable open days throughout the year

Not for the moment, thing is i know the English game miles more which helps me pick and place the horses. I know navan is right handed but i dont really know for instace of its a better front runners track than Naas. Id have to make a massive effort to get my irish knowedge upto the same level as i know our racing as i wouldnt just let the trainer decide on race targets or riding instructions.
Id also not be able to go racing to watch them and meet the members which for some might be why they joined lol

Horse are like humans ... some thick as fook but can run fast...some very clever but slow as fook
Unfortunately he is the thick as fook kind and simple dosnt get it when it comes to fences... he really hasn't got a clue.
Luckily the prognosis came back today from newmarket and he should be ok...touch wood.
The we will go back over hordles and might even look at the flat as he was a nice bumper horse and is genuine and straight forward
Gutted but at least he is fine...despite what the idiots say on here he means the world to us and his welfare is the main thing...he's a cracking good animal but has been unlucky with injuries

Racing has not cost us a bean since we started as we have just kept rolling the money on and landed a couple of lovely touches.
We have our lovely little mare Norton Sapphire in foal for the second time to Midnight legend.
She is the toughest horse I have ever had anything to do with and can't wait to see here first foal run in a couple of years
this game can be great and cruel but if its in u its in u.
You also have to enjoy the race day itself and Tim Vaughan is an absolute gent as are his staff when you go to the yard...I love going racing with him and that is a big part of it.
Our last trainer Victor Dartnall is imo in the top 4 or 5 trainers in the country...he is absolutely brilliant but we move our horses because the race day experience was ... shall we say... not great...its a shame because as i say the man is a BRILLIANT trainer and a nice guy but dunno why it didnt go well.
How often do you see a Dartnall horse in a seller ??? the man can flat out rain and his brother Gerald is a fab judge of horse too.

nice fun horse, not very big though and prob one who'll run in plenty of claimers off 10k so no one loses out if he got claimed. Type to run alot over 6-7f once season gets going so a good type if u like a summers day out up north. Ready to rock and roll with as well so no waiting about for months for it get fit.

Him his wife and the staff there are top notch even if you just pop in for a cuppa if your passing there is always a welcome.
On Raceday Tim is a hive of activity and is often nailed to is phone talking with reporters other owners etc but he has time for all the owners and understands that the social side of it is a big part of the race day experience.
I had horse with Brian Smart and you could not meet a more ignorant assshole in your life.
If he even bothered to turn up at the course you would net see him until the paddock.
I asked him about my horses chances one day at Ponty and his words verbatim were " why don't you ask the horse"
I fukkin exploded on him and the following day my association was over... an ignorant priick.
Tim is a workaholic yet is always smiling and is not affraid to give you an honest appraisel of your horse even if it is bad.
Just a decent guy and a really decent outfit...No doubt we will be sending him the foal once she is ready

Hi Joker, to my own admission my post yesterday did get little bit out of hand. I have been following racing roughly 12 months. However, I've only just joined the forum and what an introduction haha
I'm currently speaking to koo about potential shares in Sweets, more of a hobby and to see where it goes really. I dont have massive expectations other than being part of new experience and hopefully an enjoyable one
