Can't be more depressing than Redcar. That was a long trip for me that is unlikely to be repeated for a long time.
Struggling to motivate myself to go to Folkestone as well as everyone slates that too. I should have left some decent tracks until last!

jimnast...yes, Catterick is being rebuilt from the main entrance back down the track.
New main entrance, new cafeteria, new restaurant and new weighing room. I wonder if the stands will be next? They still remain from the very distant past!
Still like it there, though, and would have been to the North Yorkshire Grand National on the 8th had the weather not wrecked it...

jimnast,,.many years back an old boy there told me that the furthest stand from the winning post was built at ever so slightly the wrong angle to the track, hence you have to go right to the end of it to iron out the angle that masks part of the home bend from parts of the stand.
It was either that or the track was re-laid slightly differently after that stand was built
For races over a circuit long, I do go right to the end of that furthest stand and then right to the top of the steps. But in winter that is one of the coldest places on UK tracks that I know of and is half a furlong from the winning post!!

Get off the train in Darlington, then get ratted on the cheap ale in Hogans
Go to Catterick as a last resort
I believe Ronnie advised Hogans closed - amazing really it was massive and always busy(ish) when we were through.
Used to go once a year down on train from Edinburgh. The bus service from Darlo to racetrack isn't as good as it was - I used to go into Catterick town, couple of pints at Bay Horse, then fish and chips (good quality) and easy walk to course, however it's now far easier for us to go to Sedgefield via X19 from Durham.
As Jimnast says big change in facilities over the years, last time I was there 23 or 24 I was there as a small share owner and the owners-trainers facilities were way different from the past!

I'm not baring anything. But it's nice that you remember a thread from the depths of the evil of Lockdown, and that you think it bears (i.e., can withstand the burden of) being repeated.
