Does anyone know why the pools are always so incredibly poor?
Seems strange to me that, even on a good days racing, they are way below even a terrible UK aw card.
Yesterday at the Curragh, there was only around £15,00 in the pot.

firstly they are fairly new innovation in ireland, when the placepots started here there was some very small pools, one of the first ones i got correct was an evening meeting at hamilton, it was obviously before tote direct and the only money in the pool was course cash, anyway wasn't won and the carry over pool was £147.

You would have thought that they would have proved slightly more popular than they are though?
Report barkinggreville October 11, 2010 1:13 PM BST
well to a point they have up to quite recently (few months) it wasn't unusual for the pools to regularly be below £5k, i think its just that they are taking time to catch on with joe public or should that be paddy public.

yeah doin wind, kem, sal. had a good saturday, got york and ascot, viewed getting york with mixed emotions, obviously pleased to hit it but i was a tad miffed at the dividend £2.65k as the sp based place6 paid over £7k

I saw that York place 6 myself! I was down in the first there. I managed to perm Ascot pretty well though so not too many complaints.
You ever done place 6? I dont even know who would take that bet.
Nice to hear that youre well in profit.

Ireland has a smaller population than UK
Report barkinggreville October 11, 2010 1:44 PM BST
yeah well obviously that is one reason, but now that uk tote direct money is going into the pools (another recent development) the pools will continue to grow steadily as more uk punters
bet into the pool.
a lot of pools there

Might be bollox but aren't they 2 different pools/companies. i.e in UK we are going into the UK pools of punters interested in the Irish racing hence the low pot. In IE they go into a different pool on their Tote which is probably on a par with the UK meetings. If you know what I mean !
Report barkinggreville October 11, 2010 2:40 PM BST
not as far as i know, i think the uk money is added into the irish pools which explains the anomolous ammounts showing as they update the running totals going onto leg 6 ie a total going onto a runner of £5.67, it reflects the exchange rate between sterling and euro

Only Punchestown on today for the placepot desperados amongst us and quite a reasonable card as well. Yet, a very modest £58,946.57 in the kitty.

Paying £2.10 after leg 1 b.t.w.

They take more out for Ireland meetings IRRC. That won't help either.
Report SlippyBlue January 12, 2025 3:57 PM GMT
It paid £49.50 which was an okay dividend looking at the results.
Doubled my stake + 10% gravy on top so good enough.
Report Regbutler January 12, 2025 6:17 PM GMT
As slippy says, today's dividend was OK given the results
Friday night at Dundalk placepots been a good earner over the years
