He was an average jock.
Did well enough and was rewarded with some good rides.
Now of course, it seems he has different ideas of what to get out of the game.

culhane is a great jockey on a gamble, but appears to become completley inept on a massive drifter, purely co-incidental im sure
was a rising star,barry hills gave him rides until that fateful day....................True Courage.....google it

Culhane's costly blunder

Police were called to the Pontefract weighing room yesterday amid angry scenes after jockey Tony Culhane was unforgivably beaten on True Courage, the odds-on favourite for the Tanshelf Maiden Stakes.
Culhane committed the jockey's cardinal sin. He thought he was going to win comfortably, eased his mount down, and was overtaken near the line, in this case by the fast-finishing Kahalah, ridden by Ted Durcan.

It was obvious Culhane was set to register an easy win on True Courage, but up the stiff run-in at Pontefract, his mount shortened stride as soon as the jockey eased back on the pressure. It was a massive blow for punters, and a matter of extreme embarrassment for the jockey.
Culhane's classic blunder overshadowed proceedings at yesterday's Newmarket July meeting, where the principal attraction was the victory of five-year-old Millenary, ridden by Pat Eddery, in the Princess of Wales's Stakes. The John Dunlop-trained horse is now set for a crack at the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot later this month.
"I think he will have to go to Ascot, as long as the ground is suitable," said Dunlop. Bookmakers responded by cutting Millenary's King George price to 10-1, from 16-1.
Dunlop stressed that the ground was an important factor with Millenary, who likes to get his toe in. "He found the ground too firm when he was third in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot," he said.
In the Group Two Cherry Hinton Stakes, the Peter Harris-trained juvenile filly Spinola finished powerfully along the far rail to gain the upper hand close home, prevailing by a short-head from Cassis, with a head back to Pearl Dance in third. Spinola will now be aimed at the Cheveley Park Stakes in the autumn.
"There are other possible races in between, like the Lowther Stakes at York, but I have no fixed ideas about where or when she might run next," explained Harris.
There was an impressive turnout of former colleagues and friends for the Robin Parke Memorial Maiden Stakes, run in memory of the great Northern Ireland-born sports writer, who spent 35 years in the Far East.
Parke, who died from a brain tumour last August, would have been delighted by the backing given this race by a collection of his old mates. Victory went to the Jeremy Noseda-trained Spinnette, who is certain to win another one or two before the end of the season.
In a surprise move, jockey Kevin Darley has appointed 'Shippy' Ellis as his agent, replacing Terry Norman. Ellis, a most popular figure in Newmarket, already has four jockeys on his books, namely Philip Robinson, Gary Bardwell, Olivier Peslier and Gerald Mosse.

A few years back I saw him at Lingfield, openly having a drink with a well known tipster/blagger, who was later warned off. Nothing illegal of course, but he didn't always exercise great judgement
Had his day in the sun with Quito. The only horse he has ever ridden that you knew he was capable of getting it right on.
The fact that this proven corrupt jockey, whose family were prepared to risk enormous sums of money laying his mounts to lose, is still able to continue riding as if nothing happened, shames this sport every single day, imo...
what does sleeper mean current employer he rides for different trainers nowadays
