Think you need to read my post again Usaidit - as you've just said aboce you can't predict fallers, mine was brought down in the carnage at Sedge.

Did however back Cast Cada so luck may be on the turn Plain

Now fully expect Finbin to go in after it finished 2nd for me at Wetherby last week.  Flying Doctor p1ssed all over Finbin then ran a shocker last night when you guessed it - my shilling was on.

Morning All

OK Usaidit, suppose I was just caught up in my own sad little world.  Was typing as the race was going, having backed one that got slide tackled by the faller.  I was simply predicting what was inevitable given my current run of luck.

Going to start a grail of sorts today.  Going to start with £100 and aim to double it every month.  Need a little focus.

Afternoon Salmon/Usaidit

Think we have to be pro-active in lifting our game on the forum.  It is a bit dead but only the contributors can make it improve.

Was going to post a topic earlier asking if there is ANYTHING positve in racing at the moment?  I'm not a constantly upbeat person, but does the game smell so much more now than ever?  I don't think so.  The broadcasting is the major issue to me.

I haven`t quite followed drew`s argument about fallers so I may have hold of the wrong end of the stick. My feeling is that the extra dangers of steeplechasing are factored into the price. As a result I personally think Novice Chases are potentially the best betting medium in British horse racing. Unfortunately I spent the winter in The Naps Tables proving the opposite        Sad

I think the forum,if that`s what you`re talking about, has been going downhill for some time. Mainly because so many of the more interesting ( in various ways ) posters have either been banned or lost interest. Warwick and jonjo are just two that fall into the latter category. Those that have been banned are too numerous to mention. You will notice tynecastle has disappeared again. Kinky Devil made a fleeting appearance under a slightly different name when the new forum was introduced but I suspect a loophole was closed. Now even info has been banned ( under that name anyway ). It is all going to hell imo.

Backs Usaidit

I have tried laying, and although it goes against the grain for me, am trying again on paper at the moment (still unsuccesfully [>o] ).  So I'm generally aiming to back winners.  I have too many bets at the moment and am experimenting with curbing this, but could have chosen a bad day as the racing this evening has plenty of opportunity.

May go to Wetherby this evening if my mates are going - think they may be going to Newcastle though which is too far to get back from tonight.

I am of course invariably interesting drew. The trouble is up to about a couple of years ago I could tumble in from the pub and be ...er....contentious on half a dozen threads. That is now very rarely possible and I think this new abortion of a forum has finally finished it off.

Lester

Are you laying Faithful One?  If so why?  I make the 13/2 I took earlier pretty good value.  Only playing for buttons while I try to regain some form.  Either that or pack it up for a while - which I don't want to do as what happens in the next 2/3 weeks is so important to the rest of the season.

Great to hear Salmon Laugh

Does the fact that most of what I read on this thread I find interesting make me easily pleased?  Or had I joined in years ago would I now also be hankering for the good old days?  I do agree btw that there are more infantile berks on the forum as a whole than when I began contributing
By:

When: 27 May 10 13:44
laying is as easy or as hard as you want to make it Drew

the cleverest approach for a backer is to find what you think wins-and lay the one you think it beats which is shortest in the betting

you'll see one person do it on the thread from time to time
By:

Form will take a turn for one of us then Lester Laugh
By:

When: 27 May 10 13:47
I haven't developed a decent strategy Usaidit and this is an obvious hole in trying to make it pay.

Think I will always be able to more easily find a 6/1 winner than, say, 3 2/1 losers.  We will see.
By:
Usaidit
When: 27 May 10 13:48
perhaps you should both be figuring out whether it is more of a back/lay than you first thought rather than letting egos run amock
By:
drewboy
When: 27 May 10 13:54
My theoretical lays today are Abondanza (can see 2 that can beat it so 2.04 too skinny) and Interakt (all have some sort of chance so 3.5 is too short).  In the second named I am diametrically opposed to Lester again though!!
By:

When: 27 May 10 13:55
I have a difference of opinion with Usaidit about laying drew. I personally try only to lay when I think there are a minimum of three that can beat it.
I think The Groutch ( an old trawler hand and a successful one when we concentrated on lays ) first put that into words on a trawler thread, but I had essentially been doing that anyway, without quite thinking it through.

How does this fit with you're US laying Salmon - or does it not have the same criteria?  We have spoken of this before I think - I back and you lay more or less simply by market watching?
By:
salmon spray
When: 27 May 10 14:04
Mmmmmm.
I could argue that the I am essentially doing the same in The US. I simply don`t lay the first 3 favs ( except occasionally by accident when one shortens ). I must admit that on UK racing I AM talking about form. The US stuff is different because of the way the markets form so quickly.
