Seemed a nice enough bloke to me - a bloody travesty that the result was adjusted (this type of interference happens weekly without recourse within UK racing).

Just wondered how he made his money?

Had his filly won, it would have made one amazing story and possibly given the guy the happiness he so craves. I am not ante French, just genuinely feel that this decision is never given by 99% of stewards and so I guess today, like with football, the Newmarket judges that be have made a name for themselves.

Well done.

As I said, his filly should have kept the race for the reasons outlined.

The story was of fairytale proportions and the right conclusion in light of the filly whom finished first past the post.

Newmarket stewards = very very poor.

Not the rigth decision - how stupid are people?!?

Watch racing day to day - this sort of incident happens at least once a week and as per owners comments today, results are never altered.

It is complete and utter bowlacks - logical decision would have been places unaltered, jockey 3 day ban. Not rocket science, not difficult.

Stewards a complete fking joke.

Report Sir_Talbot May 2, 2010 9:19 PM BST
I am not in the minority - how stupid are people?

Watch racing, day and night, UK and Ireland - this incident happens not quite day in and day out but almost certainly 1/2 a week - NEVER does a result get turned over. I would say today's switching of result represents about 1 in every 25 decisions. Therefore, not representative of the day to day reality.

What do we want to do boys? Have ponsey results for ponsey races to make ourselves look good globally? Or do we want consistency?

I for one am all about the latter as this is the only way to breed credibility.

Its not a case of nice owner, Cecil, French Jenny Pitman and an Arab - it's about CONSISTENCY.

It's about when this next happens in a £1.5k claimer round Lingfield keeping to this letter - if not, then the system is a complete fking mockery.

I would suggest, as previous, this kind of overhaul happens 1 in every 25 of these cases. In this instance what do we go with? Do we go with the 24 examples of that 25, or the 1 just to make us look good in the eyes of the International racing community?

For me, the outcome was completely non sensical.

Well said Sir Talbit , was there today and noel was very distraught. You see that kind of interference all the time and the result is never reversed. Sariska at Epsom , Ajaan a couple of seasons back at newmarket were far worse cases.
Report Billy Jay May 2, 2010 9:42 PM BST
Sir T

I completely agree that consistency is the name of the game.

I also think that under the regulations that apply the stewards made the right decision.

I do not watch as much as racing as you but have seen a similar incident happen over jumps and the result reversed, but I bow to your experience in that it happens one or two times a week without the result being changed.

To convince me (and I am not being cheeky and anyone can answer) could you give me an example and I will watch a replay (will have to be an ATR meeting though) as I was of the opinion that stewarding had become more level.

I must stress that I am not being facetious but would like to see an example - thank you

Billy
Report chief dan May 2, 2010 9:43 PM BST
there is no consistency in any sport at the min that is the prob ST i was just pointing out a e.g with that rhinestone race but that day he should of won but didnt get the race in stewards room then today similar thing an horses are amended joke imo ,but its same in football, rugby etc its ruining the sports imo

This is why this bowlacks about the LETTER OF THE LAW is indeed complete and utter RUBBISH.

The law is applied day in day out, from Ascot to Wolverhampton - today's decision was massively INCONSISTENT in the context of those decisions that are made daily.

This is where the TRAVESTY lies.

If I were today's owner, I would scour back over every race of the past 12 months and probably find 50 instances of interference like todays, within which there will be 1/2, maybe 3 reversal of finishing order MAX. Might get it on appeal if he can get the manpower to carry out this task, or atleast prompt a debate at a higher level into ironing out our laws of racing so as to make them C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-T!

plenty of sense in your comments but i fail to understand the logic behind the thread. Is his money being questioned just because he is of different colour
Afterall owners win every day of the week without recourse to this kind of a thread
Report Sir_Talbot May 2, 2010 9:55 PM BST
The thread has evolved.

My initial question was just to figure out a bit more about the 'winning' owner - just interested in his story pre the accident. Also wanted to know if this was as near a rags to riches story as we're likely to get in flat racing, or whether the bloke is minted and where today's result wouldn't have made a jot of difference.

Not agenda - just genuinely interested in the guy.

Complete and total ar$e gravy (like most of your posts here). How often do horses get carted 10-15 metres, get bumped twice in the last furlong and get beaten a Croc-style "flared nostril"? How you can possibly say it is the wrong decision, even for a toilet you like you, is beyond belief.
Report tobermory May 3, 2010 12:17 AM BST
The french jockey never had to stop riding, was not ' carried across the track' as was drifting itself .
Report asparagus May 3, 2010 1:00 AM BST
Imo you'd have to be a complete idiot to think the result should stand. Special Duty was beaten an inch at the most and had been bumped and then carried across the track. If anyone thinks that Special Duty was not hampered to the exent of more than an inch they are blind. It was a completely straightforward decision. No one without an agenda could possibly think otherwise.
