In 1970 Billy Bough a great professional, Gambler Horses only told me that he couldn't wait until there was a Tote Monopoly,
Well. I wonder what he will say now in 2010,

A Tote that is no more than a confidence trick that should be closed down at once and replaced with a national Totex. (ToteExchange)

I remember after the War, when the Top executives used to go into the rings, to see how Bookmakers were betting to doctor up there prices, keeping fortunes back when there was a result and put a little back when only one horse was backed/
See Carlyle** Up.
But to see 10 5/1 or bigger chances, being returned 1/10 (1.1) and some howlers 1/4 of the SP never mind Bsp it should be close at once.

he might say "no one forcing anyone to back with them, only lazy people
who will not bother shop around
what with pp now taking place bets on all races its there own fault if they are happy with the measly return from the nanny

agree 100% should be closed down

In the past people bet with the tote because it was the alternative from Bookmakers, and they thought that by help creating an alternative it would one day take over and become the majority service.

The only way that a tote has ever survived was when it was a monopoly, when it is in competition with, it fails.
Now a days more and more people want to know there return before the off.
However at present, there is no real place for competition to match betting it was the original concept in 1700 and will become,
That doesn't mean that other Exchanges will not succeed,
A British Totexchange would over time, compete with bet fair and**, however an exchange is the only service ever created were there is no need for competition because the competition is within the exchange already

You are totally missing the point. I have seen odds on shots return nearly as much to place as their win dividend. On big field races there win returns nearly always beat the sp. What needs to happen is some changes. So rather than taking the same % on every race the took a % per runner. But to suggest it is shut down because you dont like the tote return on a few placed runners is plain stupid !!!!!
