Woz stuck in Oz so this mite have been done before, but what actually is this extra fiver for?

Your battery runs out, now u gotta pay £15 for a 'spare'!!!

Maybe for staff training! Maybe for staff vans!!
Maybe for the decimal disaster? Or maybe to make up for the reduced numbers?

It'll reduce even more shortly.

the cash back scheme is a very good idea.
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 2:20 PM BST
What's the daily rate?
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:21 PM BST
20 from 15 davy as of may 3rd.

how did you find monday night davy ?
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 2:24 PM BST
quite right jimnast, one word in ur reply explains all
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 2:24 PM BST
Very hard - 1st race (3 runners a non event), took a lot of £2 bets and the results were poor, won on the book but didnt cover expenses.

I fell like the bubble is starting to burst but equally was a poor card, £17 to get in, no big screen etc
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:27 PM BST
to often davy the fields are to short, cant understand why books are still paying the extra to bet.
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:28 PM BST
sorry gleddoch you have lost me there.
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 2:33 PM BST
i'll do the gordon brown and say i misunderstood ur reply, so please explain!!
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 2:34 PM BST
well the bookie numbers are clearly dropping off, just the front row lineround with us. How was the paddock? You going next thursday eve or you at chester?
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:46 PM BST
i was refering to the new cashback scheme, where the more you spend the more you get back.
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:47 PM BST
paddock was ok,next thursday will depend on weather/runners how about you ?
Report daniels mother April 29, 2010 2:49 PM BST
jimnast,i know you do a lot of days, but do you really think its fair the smaller operators paying more per day ?
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 2:54 PM BST
Jimnast - I dont go to chester so i'll probably go, but its flat which is even less popular than NH down that way.
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 2:55 PM BST
hard one that dm,we pay the money for insurance really i doubt any off us ever wont to call them for help,so the daily rate should be the same for everybody, however i do think its wrong if your battery runs out you have to pull up 15 quid,my biggest concern with the service is many of the staff have there favorite books which they will look after first, new years day i ended up not working at cheltenham as most of the staff were rushing around helping a well known off shore bookmaker who does around 200 days a year less than me.
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 2:57 PM BST
jimnast, i have no idea about this cashback, tell me more
Report REGIT April 29, 2010 2:59 PM BST
THey spend most of there time doing the pitches with 3 links.think ive used them less than 5 times in 5 years apart from there software problems.i have 2 of everything and if it wasnt for the** wouldnt need them.

100/150 5%
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 3:01 PM BST
EXANTE is a £10 a day, but no on course support unless its a festival, though most issues can be dealt with over the phone.
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 3:01 PM BST
move over then regit
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 3:02 PM BST
regit thats a very good point about the link ups,i have noticed a lot of late that they spend much more time looking after those than the single books, that has to be sorted out.
Report daniels mother April 29, 2010 3:05 PM BST
i think a cashback for not using them would be fairer, like a no claims discount :) or smaller fees in the minor rings, even if they do get to you there it often is delayed
Report daniels mother April 29, 2010 3:07 PM BST
unfortunately the link ups pay per pitch so often £60 per day !! do they really need them 3 times as much ?
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 3:08 PM BST
dm fair point about the silver rings.
Report REGIT April 29, 2010 3:09 PM BST
bk needs them every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 3:09 PM BST
i can just see lindsay saying yep after that pr disaster
Report REGIT April 29, 2010 3:09 PM BST
and your man needed them for an hour at wetherby.the same rain and wind hit me but i never needed them.
Report REGIT April 29, 2010 3:11 PM BST
in less than a year bk will probably have his own man to follow him around.probably cheaper.
Report daniels mother April 29, 2010 3:12 PM BST
and another 1/2 hour at sedgers !! :(
Report IanP April 29, 2010 3:18 PM BST
That's a good point about the silver rings dm. Quite often, at Windsor particularly, we never see them until they come around for the £15.
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 3:21 PM BST
Do you have to pay them the £15, are you paying them for oncourse support or for using the network?
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 3:29 PM BST
simple solution then guys, dont pay!
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 3:31 PM BST
dj, network crashes- tough you stll pay!
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 3:33 PM BST
ianp, they'll be looking for 20, but should be related to the ring ur in surely!
Report jimnast April 29, 2010 3:33 PM BST
ian how many books would you expect at windsor monday ?
Report smurphy April 29, 2010 6:09 PM BST
Good question Davy Jones - what is the £15 for? is it to use the internet connection or is it for the technical help? If its for the technical help then why pay, if you have your own spares?
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 7:23 PM BST
smurph, u missed the header! 20 quid!!
Report adge April 29, 2010 7:39 PM BST
don't for the life of me understand whyanyone pays this silly money when a much more reliable system is available.
and it's not £10 per day
i'm working 25 days this month and theTOTAL charge is £36.25
Report ribero1 April 29, 2010 7:43 PM BST
rdt are the 2nd most profitable organisation on the racecourse but a long way behind no.1.
Report Davy Jones April 29, 2010 7:51 PM BST
adge - dont understand, what do you mean £36
Report BULLSH1TSHIFTER April 29, 2010 7:56 PM BST
all you got to do is wait for one of them to get a coffee or go in the betting shop for a punt and go and nick yourself 3 boxes of till rolls a port replicator and one of those nice red coats, do this once a month and the extra flim won't make any difference.
Report gleddoch April 29, 2010 8:24 PM BST
the one morris had on yesterday fitted him so well. but he managed to swap with one of the ascot jobsworths after 2nd race and never seen again
Report BULLSH1TSHIFTER April 29, 2010 8:29 PM BST
he's made a right rick the ascot smuther will only get you in 1 track the little red number gets you in the lot.
Report carpet1 April 29, 2010 9:11 PM BST
tell me adge do u pay the 36 quid when your away.
Report carpet1 April 29, 2010 9:14 PM BST
had to laugh asked one of the staff ;
what buttons do i press so tickets say betting without the fav.
staff gets on phone to ask some one.
now in your 20 quid your paying for staff training!
Report adge April 29, 2010 11:32 PM BST
sorry i didn't get back...i took a £300 bet on an outsider near the end of posting and it threw my concentration.
i'll try again
i pay £35.25 p per month [ every month ] the max as i work more than 150 days...part timers pay less... plus £3 per day to download the runners plus £3 per day to use betfair through the software.
the cost of batteries is about 40% lower than RDT and you never see me running round the ring looking for help.
why .. because the system works .
Report smurphy April 29, 2010 11:40 PM BST
what system, any contact numbers? thanks
Report wasnot April 29, 2010 11:44 PM BST
adge = exante. Not recommended if you are a pillock with pcs. If you are averagely competent its different class imo. Networking not as developed as rdt but I'm working on them.
Report know all April 29, 2010 11:44 PM BST
i seem to remember the proceeds of the early auctions was to re vamp the rings and supply each joint with electric, where did all that money go...
Report adge April 30, 2010 9:19 AM BST
yes , i'm sure it's not by accident that wasnot, radgepot and others don't use RDT.
as well as the daily costs you have to consider
1. we use betfair at 2% commission with vastly more liquidity
2. the LED boards are superior with a scrolling top information line AND COST LESS
3 the batteries and printers [ in fact eveyrthing ] are at least one third cheaper
4 the majority of irish books use the exante system
Report Davy Jones April 30, 2010 10:16 AM BST
adge - you on a different deal then to just paying a tenner a day?

There is 1 advantage RDT has over exante, you get the colours of the runners in your screen - Im too mean to waste £2 on a racing post so that would be useful :)

davy,
i didn't know anybody paid a tenner a day. that must be a hire contract.
i believe there are three monthly rates [ one quite low ]mine being the max. because i work over 150 days per year
Report Davy Jones April 30, 2010 10:53 AM BST
adge - £10 (£3 to donwload runners, £4 to monitor exchange & £3 to bet on betfair, or something like that). I dont do many days so it sounds like there is a better deal for those doing large amounts of racing.

The charge is fine and the product good, though there is a problem with internet connection at the big meetings which I think they are trying to resolve.
Report IanP April 30, 2010 10:56 AM BST
jimnast re Windsor. 10 in the silver on a Monday n ight when it starts @ 6:30. 8 on the front and two on the end of the other rows - nobody else turns up any more. Think there has only been one book in attendance for the past two weeks - we don't go until June at least, apart from this Monday which is an afternoon meeting.
Report adge April 30, 2010 11:01 AM BST
