'Uncle' Clive Brittain a shocking omission IMO

Yeah, Clive ran a lot of no-hopers in group races but sometimes hit the jackpot,

and Henry Cecil tried by starting the once raced maiden Distant View in the 2000 guineas but only finished 5th imo.

If i was a reasonably small trainer i.e best, if i had a superstar i wouldnt go listed/group race first time out id get it in a tinpot maiden and have my absolute conkers on it to pay for the stable for the year! Then go pattern race etc

The connections of Chief Singer wouldnt agree.
They were able to get plenty on @ large prices due to the strength of the market.
Wouldnt have had a prayer of doing it to that extent in a run of the mill maiden.

connections of Celtic Swing (winner of Racing Post trophy as a 2 year old and the French Derby among other things) badly burnt their fingers trying just that in a median auction race on debut !

Note to self: try looking it up before posting instead of posting then looking up to see if you are going senile yet !

My mind works in mysterious ways,

the horse that came 4th was an odds-on shot trained by none other than The Ramsdens :0
