Positives: Good crowds, no trouble, a bit busy at Kempton but not too bad, about 50 times the normal Wednesday crowd there.
Ascot were throwing things at you for free, free racing post, free racecard, free coffee etc etc, anybody going to the racing for first time could not fail to be impressed imo.
Bookies: Fair dues, they get some stick, but betting to right place terms etc, although did see 1 or 2 leave early, business may have been slow despite the big crowds.
1/4 odds 1,2 in 4 runner race!! Very nice of Barry Johnson and others, had half decent e/w bet on King of Dixie at 9/2 1/4odds 1,2. you don't get that on the high street!!!
Negatives: Although there were the odd deal (pie and pint for a fiver), there burger store at Ascot is ludicrously priced, £6 for a burger is daylight robbery, don't care if its come all way from Aberdeen and his name was Angus :)
Decimal odds, albeit I did go to Barry Johnson to do the King of Dixie bet and he was betting decimal, I had to check with the girl that the price was 9/2 and not 7/2, always think that 4.5 should be 7/2 but not on course!!!! I was a little confused.
Sick on floor at Kempton, didn't see any trouble but right out the front door there was sick lying there for at least half hour, not a pleasant sight for first time racegoers.
