theres nothing wrong with racing . they should leave it alone

changing odds to decimals is not gonna make people go racing thats for sure. theres nothing wrong with the racing its just the fact that it cant compete with football and other sports anymore
Report blythester April 28, 2010 2:04 PM BST
i dont think decimalising will attract punters! or have i got that wrong?

Leave everything as it is because the sport is flourishing. If it was up to Barry we'd all still have black and white telly's

Aviboyd - so decimal odds is gonna keep racing aroud in 20 years time. Idiotic statement of the highest order.
Report dananders April 28, 2010 2:07 PM BST
its going to confuse more people than fractions would imo

Avi if the high street clowns wont take a bet which they wont, racing will die.

Every punter starts somewhere, but these casinos dont want punters.

90% of punters 1st experence of racing is in shops, unless ur a spinner they dont want you.

r i p racing, its heart ripped out and stamped on by laddies and the other **ins . . . . .i m o.

Unneccessary change. Change something that people care about , like the price in and the price of food and drink
Report Aviboyd April 28, 2010 2:08 PM BST
Of course not trademark, decimal odds will not make a blind bit of difference - but the sport has to evolve with the times and not remain in the dark ages. Decimal odds is a waste of time but perhaps future innovations won't be?
Report duncan idaho April 28, 2010 2:08 PM BST
I have University educated friends who just go blank the moment you say something like 100/30 or 9/4......so it's possible it'll make a difference, i'd say

(thinly veiled 'i have clever mates' post, yeah, yeah)

Cut out the swindled SPs into the bargain for starters.

Changing from fractions. Joke
Report dananders April 28, 2010 2:10 PM BST
the price of drinks and food is an absolute joke . its a dear day to go racing nowadays . ide rather stay at home and watch it on the tele.
Report Too Easy April 28, 2010 2:15 PM BST
Why can't the decimals include the stake like on here as that is what most will be comparing to?
Report STUDYFORM April 28, 2010 2:16 PM BST
Unfortunately many people just DON'T understand fractions.
A punter of over 30 years experience asked me once, "which is bigger 15/8 or 9/4?"

Dennis is just being his age. All round the world people bet in decimals.

If punters see 7.4 for example, they'll know it's more than 6.8.
It would be a more simple system.

I'm all for it, and I'm a middle aged bookie!!!

was watching ATR the other day. Tommo said a horse was 4/1 on betfair when it showed 4.0. if he don't understand it then no one will

Yes the other costs at racecourses (with the possible exception of Wolverhampton) need revising.

£7 for a burger. £2 for a teaspoon of Nescafe cheap blend in a plastic cup of tepid water.
£25 or sometimes much more to get in. This works out at £4 or £5 a race!!!!
Report STUDYFORM April 28, 2010 2:20 PM BST
Not really W/SP.

He was a 55 year old plasterer who bet in fivers and tenners, just didn't get it!

6/5 or 5/4 I can see why a plasterer would struggle with whats bigger, but 9/4 and 15/8, id be surprised if my 8 yr old could not work out that!

You'd be amazed what happens on the racecourse sometimes. Only on Saturday at Market Rasen a punter had £40 with the bookie next to us @ 7/4 when we were showing 2/1. If it had been 1.75 vs 2.00 then I don't think he would make the same mistake.
Report dananders April 28, 2010 2:50 PM BST
maybe he was just a tool and didnt care about the price

Report sparrow April 28, 2010 3:12 PM BST
All this reminds me of the time I backed the Champion hurdle winner Kribensis returned at 95/40 and I was assured by my local bookie that this was less than 9/4.
Report ashmeade 79 April 28, 2010 3:16 PM BST
The reason why the crowds are down is due to people not having any money wouldn't make any difference what they do. I have a small shop in cheltenham ( Not a bookies) and over the last two years my takings are getting worse, i'm just about staying a float but rather than doing 50-60 hours a week i'm doing close to 80 hours.

Building with flat up for sale any offers? (Cheltenham Area)

Had a punter at Wolves one night put a hefty lump on a 25/1, next door was showing 33's!!!! happens all the time. There were only 3 of us betting. People honestly don't get it.
Report Wee Mac April 28, 2010 3:26 PM BST

Many moons ago we were betting 2/1 each of two...punter walks up and says which one are you going to mke fav...why ?...'cos I want to back the fav.came the answer...shortened one to 7/4....and punter took 35/20...true story and the fella had been around a long long time....

As to making it better...everyone is bleating about the costs....free entery or say a free £5 tote bet...woulde give a semblance of valueesp when the tote take out is 25% plus....

The so called administrators are clueless.....

Bring back Roger Buffom to get rid of the low life ** .Every day a very suspicious race and we need Roge to sort em all out. Then racing would change once all the **s are out the way.
