A mate of mine lost 2k on the punt last week at our local Race track I went to a casino with him on Friday night and he ended up getting on a real roll on the roulette winning 3k from 200 quid unreal spins but was his night i suppose, was just chatting to him on the phone and turns out hes Punted all the cash away already on yesterdays afternoons horses and poker overnight, find it hard to have any sympathy for him but looking to me like hes got a problem, or is it just variance hes the type of guy thats got 2K one day and asking for 30 quid the next, i like a punt myself but surely its not normal living like that must be a few like him around do i tell him to get help or what

Tell him to get help but he probably doesn't think he has a problem.

"...hes the type of guy thats got 2K one day and asking for 30 quid the next, "

Sounds like he has much more than just a 'punting problem'.

He sounds like the kind of guy who has to spend money, just because he has it.

Does he buy clothes, and gadgets etc, change cars even, that he does not need, to - just because he has some money?

If so - he is beyond rational help - and hasn't just got a gambling problem.

his main problem is that his style of punting will cause him to lose long term and, if its not happened to him already, to lose money that he can't afford to lose. This will have an impact on him and the people around him.

There probably isn't anything that you can do if he can't see it himself but you could in a round about way get him to browse the forum on gamcare.org.uk.

goog luck!

poker sounds to be the problem. He wouldn't be fresh for it after an all dayer on the horses. full stop

Thanks for the responces fellas some good advice there, think maybe best to challenge him about it like you say Onlooker seems the type that cant keep it in his pocket in some respects.

Once again cheers we all like a bet me included but wouldnt want to see a mate i have known for a while now destroy himself.

I just had a simmilar experience, young lad I know phoned me two weeks ago and said he had just won £700 on fotb, I told/advised him of my opinion on these, a week later he told me he ad just won £1700, on same machines,, I said well done, and again offered my opinion, this week he said I put that money into a account on here, and I am up 9k I doubted this, but he showed me the evidence, he had been betting on football various unders, and straight wins, he had placed a number of large bets (one 5k win on obscure football team possibly hong kong league) at odds of 1.41, he had with drew 4k I told him to withdraw another 2k as it would not take long with the size of his bets to put a dent in his money should it go wrong once or twice, he with drew 3k and lost 2k just after, he is young and been gambling for about 6 months max, but how can you tell someone who has ben that successful what to do, only offer advice imo
Cheers

I have known many fearless gamblers ( **e or bust attitude ) as you have described above(**e or bust attitude) . The end result is a one bedroom bed sit above a chippy with the State picking up the tab .If you try and help , you are the worst person in the world . They have to bang their heads against the wall themselves , before they realize there is a problem .
