Totally agree Get off the lads back.
By:
havent seen the race but from what ive read on here and in the papers i think danny has had a bad deal just my personel oppinion
By:
Backed the horse and didnt blame him at all. At worst, it was a mistake and unlike most on here i understand jockeys like all of us make mistakes, its all part of why they call it "gambling"

the flagman was shouting GO AROUND GO AROUND. should just leave the lad alone now. everyone makes mistakes. im sure he will ride lots more winners in time. :D |
By:
was his fault .
cant see any defence for him myself , why did he ride towards the hazard . |
By:
If the stewards suspend him again, which will be a disastrous decision,it will cause serious damage to his career,so it becomes a very important issue.
In a court of law the jury has to be positive in their conclusion, there must be no element of doubt, which there most certainly is here. |
By:
Thought it was confusing too, whoever positioned the flag men was to blame
By:
flag man should get the sack..whole field could have went round hurdle and then there could have been carnage.
By:
I think a ban would be very harsh given the circumstances. It's not your normal case of a jockey not knowing the track, or the rules.
Hope they let him off, bad enough for him that it was on the big stable gamble. |
By:
or whoever told flag men..if any one did.
By:
cost me enough...........good poster said he was there and they were callingthe flag man from his position realising wrong position etc.......................but HE couldent hear em
By:
They should of used a different coloured flag to indicate that there was an incident ahead and to be extra cautious. It seems so outdated the system that they are currently using.
By:
Well, thats it guys,a big majority of us forumites on the lad's side.
Sharp minds! Let's hope they see the true picture. |
By:
I had a substantial bet and tipped this on another site. I don't blame jock in the least - if the stwards had any guts, they would have exonnerated him there and then after seeing the replays.

was his fault . cant see any defence for him myself , why did he ride towards the hazard . because the flagman standing waving his flag in front of the fence was shouting "go around - go around" |
By:
what happened?
By:
you woke up
By:
should have traffic lights 74 yards before every obstacle.
By:
no ..........5yds before every joint
By:
He's been involved in too many of these incidents to have much sympathy for the chap, tbh.
By:
Just to balance the discussion a tad.
If Danny Cook's actions were understandable, then why did EVERY other rider ignore his lead and jump the hurdle? Jockeys are normally sheep and just 'follow my leader'. Ask yourselves why they were able to make the correct decision? |
By:
Dan,every case is different, take into consideration the facts, not his past record.
By:
maybe the leader was the only one who noticed the first flagman or heard him shout.
usually turning for home there the rest of the riders are watching each other. |
By:
Rubbish loper, the guy that was in 3rd or 4th also went round!!
By:
I backed Gaspara :-(
By:
Boolllox, Unbiased.
The whole field jumped the hurdle correctly, except Nick Schofield who was pulling up. |
By:
no one else went around
By:
Loper has a point. Maybe the poor lads head is totally shot over previous incidents. But the instructions were still unclear and I don't think too much blame should be thrown at the jockey. Banning him for a long time would shoot his confidence to bits.
By:
he was closest to the outside of the fence
the others almost did follow him but were too late to change position. |
By:
Surely if they meant for a hurdle to be missed, markers would be put up?
And Danny seems the only one to have heard this "Guy shouting"... |
By:
he was closest to the outside of the fence
the others almost did follow him but were too late to change position. So they were closer to the flagman. |

To lay the blame at Danny's boots is a little unfair, as the racecourse staff and personnel were not quick enough to act to make the situation clear. Why didn't they doll the fence off with the arrows like they normally do instead of what seemingly appeared to be rushing a decision. This obviously caused confusion. Nevertheless, Danny is partly (and a big part of it imo) to blame as firstly, he should have jumped the fence as it wasn't dolled off. Secondly, why run towards the incident they were waving him away from with the danger flag? Why didn't he go around the fence the other way? Danny made a wrong decision but he was not helped by the lack of organisation by the racecourse staff. Just my thoughts.
By:
Why would they doll off the fence, it was meant to be jumped.
By:
Don't agree loper, others followed him but the realised he was wrong and jumped the fence.
By:
The boy was clearly upset when Luke interviewed him I wouldnt want to be in that situation flags, shouting ,screens and trying to control a horse coming to a hurdle ,the system of communicating to jockeys clearly needs an overhaul
By:
The rules are clear imho.
If a fence is to avoided, markers are placed in front. No Markers, fence must be jumped. |
By:
Just watched again loper, you were right ,the horse was not in 3 0r 4th, mid div.but only seemed to slow down after going round ,he was still travelling, then slowed right down as if pulling up,probably confused too.
Reading all the replies there is certainly confusion, and once there is confusion you cannot convict. |
By:
I have little doubt Schofield made the same mistake. He seemed to see Cook going wide and get confused.
I think he was quick witted though to PU |
By:
ear pieces ,mirophones, helmet cameras..that way the stewards can communicate with jockeys and we can hear and see if any **ing going on.
