Posted a thread about this a month before Cheltenham. Dunguib won on the bridle over 2m 2f in heavy ground, arguably his best win over hurdles.

The horse has an engine but as in most great bumper horses they ususally end up being better over further than 2m (If taking to hurdles/chases)

would be nice to agree but starting to think he's more of a chicken than anything else
Report littledancer • April 23, 2010 10:23 PM BST
think he needs soft ground and 2 1/2 miles

Just a good horse, and not the machine many thought.

Cousin Vinny revisited - got slaughtered by someone on here last time I drew that comparison.
Report dgc1 • April 23, 2010 10:30 PM BST
would be nice to see him ridden in front in group company and then we could see once and for all if he is any good

but that is probably not a sexy enough look for that champion boy rider

pulled a bit today did he? should have let him bowl along in front and see what he is really made of. no denying the talent but need to see it
Report Wicketd • April 23, 2010 10:34 PM BST
far from cousin vinny revisited. far from it.
Report dgc1 • April 23, 2010 10:35 PM BST
pulled his head off until the turn - admittedly botched a jump 3 out

i wasn't in front of a pc but would be interested to know how short he went in running. i would have thought shorter than evens

he never looked like winning in running to me. he had emptied out by the time he needed to quicken.

would have been interesting to see him settle, make his move and see HF tracking him. not saying he would have won, but woulda been a good watch.

You don't watch a lot of racing do you?

davy, i was just about to post that we wont see him at the festival next year!

world hurdle the only option if he does though
Report dgc1 • April 23, 2010 10:44 PM BST
looked a certainty down the back straight to me

is it too late to get on?
Report minig11 • April 23, 2010 10:45 PM BST
Surely you could see that he was pulling way too hard in the 1st mile. He was never going to get home
Report breadnbutter • April 23, 2010 10:47 PM BST
dunguibs 3rd at chelt entitled him to be a 25/1 chance today .

all the ** talked about this horse and they fell for it again today .

a novice in with big boys on ground that did not suit on a tight track .

this horse will never be a top 2m hurdler ever .

just like 90% of chelt bumper winners.
Report dgc1 • April 23, 2010 10:49 PM BST
it can be hard to distinguish pulling from cruising speed in top horses, esp over only 2 miles

i had classified dunguib in the latter category until today's big question mark

cheltenham run was much much better than today imo. horse ran an exceptional last half mile there

i think he prob would be better over longer trip!!didnt settle today , never had a chance, if h'fly did the same he wouldnt have won either, there is so little between the top horses that doing something like that will cost u the race everytime against horses of similar ability!!that said h'fly was brilliant and dunguib was too short a price (i backed him as believed he was something special) maybe he is, alot of people will write him off as of today but imo cannot be judged as his real running (not saying he'd win anyway) but if he was turned off and had a strong pace i think he'd have had a chance to atleast challenge and show his true ability!!hes a far superior horse to cousin vinny and ive no doubt time will prove that, look at his form, how many successive wins under his belt but there is only so much faith u can put in a horse, some will disregard him and others will still have faith in him!im not sure ill back him at prohibitive odds again but i do believe this horse will add more G1's to his name b4 the end of his career, which ones i dont kno, the day he gets a strong pace and settles, he will give any horse a run for their money!!

the END

:D

oh and we'll done winners and layers

tata!
