Going to the races on Saturday July 24th, want to stay one night, but everything near the course or in town centreis either booked up, or require you to stay 2 nights, could stay in Wetherby but further than we would like anywhere any nearer worth a try?
If you're driving Ed, suggest Harrogate or Wetherby. (Harrogate better for night life or restaurants)
Plenty of hotels, pubs , guest houses to choose from. :)

You could do worse than stay in Leeds. York and the immediate local is a tourist area and busy/expensive in summer. Leeds is more business orientated but has great nightlife and restaurants, and plenty of good hotels that tend to be quieter/cheap at weekends.
20 mins to York by train and there's millions of trains.
