thank you was what is you thought of the test

I thought that a 20 runner novice with every price in full flow will frighten more punters into the betting shop or the tote thatnwill invite to the racecourse

I'm happy to try it Cu, just feel it will be a complete failure.

People like the uniqueness of traditional betting, like you are part of an insiders' club. Lets face it, purely in terms of £s most people would be better off staying at home & betting on here, but there is more to it than pure monetary gain (or loss).

Would be happy to provide a decimal service if that was what my customers want though.

Also, Cu, as part of the Racing For Change week it is free at Ascot that day & Ascot are not charging a badge fee. Wouldnt have hurt all the books to try the decimal odds for one race at least in return.

New odds are appearing on course now Cu from newbies desperate to top ring but no percentage to play with. 17/1 & 19/1 have joined 30/1, 15/4 & 17/4 in their repertiore. I've heard of 19/2 being used but not seen it myself.

the corner shop i used to go to as a lad you could have 2 lb of tatas and a toffee apple all served by the same lady (Elsie) with the dirt on the potatoes all over the toffee

Never had a days stomach ache but my skin was a bit dodgy until 21

Wassy, dont know,i would never guess, but pointing out its not just newbies as you put it.

ULUL at Towcester on Tuesday there was a straight eight where the EW was against you. I put up 1/5th odds 123, next door 1/6th odds 123 & fractionally bigger win odds than me (I was 109% Win, 94% place). The punters were queing up to be on with him & I took nothing on the race. I did plenty of shouting about the place terms so the public knew about it but they still all bet with him.

Makes you sick.

Wassy, people who know me well, will tell you how angry i get with a lot of the on course books regarding morals and working practices,i often wonder what kind of life these people have,if any.we tend to go about ourbusiness as quiet as possible,we offer standard ew terms all races, accept fractions, have never refused a bet,and we seem to do ok!just**@s me off when some of our so called peers play the way they do,anyway G/n G/l.
Report breadnbutter April 22, 2010 10:59 PM BST
i think the public would understand decimal odds very easily ,i think it would be a good thing for on course layers and dont see what your problem is . IT should not be forced upon you or should it cost you imo but decimal odds is surley the way forward .
Report wasnot April 22, 2010 11:06 PM BST
breadnbutter - but you are not my customer. My customers are the people who come to the tracks for a day out and bet in cash with me. I am only interested in what they want, no offence intended. If they want decimal odds then that is the service I will provide. I honestly dont think that it is what they want.
Report intheknow April 22, 2010 11:11 PM BST
At the request of RFC, I understand that 4/5 will be displayed as 0.8 as opposed to 1.8

Now if that doesn't confuse things even more . . . .
Report breadnbutter April 22, 2010 11:12 PM BST
would not be too difficult for you bookie chaps to get together and get someone to do a survey of your customers and ask them then ,that would be best give them what they want ...but ffs dont mention e/w or sp .
Report wasnot April 22, 2010 11:15 PM BST
intheknow - when explaining odds to complete numpties like rfc is trying to attract, odds to one ie 0.8/1 are much easier to explain and understand tbf. No reason for bookmakers to fall into line with exchanges imo.
Report intheknow April 22, 2010 11:19 PM BST
wassy - yes I fully agree with you - but I'm sure that's not what many people are expecting.

A total waste of time and it won't bring any more punters through the turnstiles
