Wellthe loonies are out again, ap for sports personality of the year, a fair jockey, but the man has no personality, shown up again today for his basic non understanding of how to produce chasers at fences, gave denman a poor ride and felll off another, the mans great on hurdlers, just rides them like a loon and gets everything out of them, but chasers need to be presented properlyat fences and from what i have seen he aint learnt much in 15 years...Discuss.

always difficult to break the habit of a lifetime.

a horse can jump fine whe's on a loose rein, it's the jockey that messes him up,
let the horse do the jumping. Watch Murphy, he lets the horse jump the fence
instead of trying to jump it for him.

at his best smashing duff hurdlers round the west country gaffs for pipe years ago, out 20 lenghts clear to the first and bash em all the way home, horsemanship wise he aint all that

Report Glasgow Brian April 21, 2010 8:59 PM BST
I agree with the poster 100% - he looked like he couldnt handle it he was moving frenetically from very early on in the race .

Report Splicer Keats April 21, 2010 9:01 PM BST
u think it would have been wiser to try settle him round the inside, using opposition to keep him straighter instead of letting him try to run o=ff the course ?

All top sportsman reach a peak then their careers take a downward spiral, this do"snt mean they can"t still compete at the highest level,A.P. is still a top jockey but in my opinion there are 2 who are at the very least his equal.

most of horses he rides are heaps of sh it and 2 get the record and winners he has.one of greatest sportsmen ever people who knock that really are clueless even if the man never won another race

Without a doubt he was worried today, that clumsy jump of the first decided the whole race, he knew he was useless wheb he fell of it, and didnt know what to do on it today, didnt have a race plan and paid the price

My impression was that the majority of his rides are favs ( including a good sprinkling of shorties ), 2nd favs and 3rd favs.

To suggest that McCoy does not know how to present a horse at a fence , is quite frankly ridiculous
Report Splicer Keats April 22, 2010 1:12 PM BST
if at sports day with the kids you had to run a piggy back race with the missus you wouldnt want him on ur back, of course you would win, but your ribs would be kicked to feck, ur back a mass of bruises and youd vow never to piggyback race again...a bit like Denmans feeling this morning ;)

He's only ridden 3000+ winners and been champion jockey for 14/15 years so it's a bit early to tell whether he's a good jockey or not. My inclination is, that with time, he may well develop into something a bit special but we'll just have to wait and see. Certainly the input of all those who have given McCoy advice about riding Denman will have been invaluable to this up-and-coming star of the future.
Report Aladdin Sane April 22, 2010 1:52 PM BST
Agree with Racingguru. Don't think there's a better jockey in
a driving finish, but when it comes to presenting a horse at a
fence, getting them to travel and into a rhythm, think there are
one or two better jocks out there.
