If I may say
In a pub on the way to Chester Sam Nixon was being asked about a great Bookmaker dominating the midland rings, Sam said the best teams he has ever seen were a Man on a stool putting the prices up on the board and a member of staff taking the bets, A monkey can take the bets, but like the game pass the parcel. it is what and how much to take, and when to pull and not to pull that is the question. Odd fillers except on great days, very few and far between are at a disadvantage and never last. |

adge.lol.i know you stand those type of horses, would you have had it for that much?
By:
There was once a Bookmaker in the midlands who would place every horse up on a 18 runner novice and guarantee any horse to win £5,000 eq to £100 K now can we have a comparison now,
Even with the betfair to hedge with. Cubone. |

The truth hurts,
Len Dcosta was betting in the back line at Warwick when a punter came to him and asked for a 66/1 to £50 EW Len was shown by his tick tack 100/1 in 2 places and the Bookie next door was going 150.this Bookie heard the bet struck and re assessed it to 33. Len bet him, Told his tick tack to have £20 at 150 His book read at the off £1200 over broke, in the win. and had forgotten the place bet, It got beat a short head at 14/1 |

racecourse regular there was always plenty of room in the 4h line on the aways.

By:
at least you admit u were a flimper..... no shame in that
By:
proud of it i quickly learned that you can only paint a pretty picture if you have the brushes.
By:
considering I was in the 4 th line I did wonders.
The Bookmaker who changed the Bookmakers rules to allow women to sell there family pitches First Bookmaker to purchase Rails Bookmakers, for £100 Knowing that they would one day have boards. First Couple with my son to see the benefit of Satelite. and the consequences. First to pass the info onto friends. What more could I do. as the third generation of a back line Bookmaker I never expected to be William, Hill. But had 4 tatersall Cases against and won the lot. I now have a great memory and once I know a Bookmakers name I can tell you were all there skeletons are berried and it don't make good reading cubone.co,uk |

what about a firm by the name of Sid Hooper, remember him at July course and Ascot to name but two, dont see anything of them these days, wouldnt have minded a pitch next to them though
By:
fletcher bets like a lunatic but he does win plenty per annum.
By:
never believe anything until you count it.
He may be the European £95mill winner. and is an eccentric Bookmaker. |
By:
he has got the pitches to bet sweet in but he cant help himself
By:
RR, I used to bet with Sid Hooper, he had a pitch at Catford and Wimbledon dog tracks in the 80's when I was a regular. Like you say, seemed to have vanished off the scene.
By:
wumpkins you are certainly right there, if there was a loony asylum for bookmakers then fletcher would be in it, I think Terry Coan used to be in it but escaped seems to play a bit differently these days
By:
rr if im not mistaken i think fletcher and coan are best mates.
By:
perhaps they went to the same college with Mike Fletcher

You will have to read my tale on cubone.co.uk I decided to promote my little betting shop in Bilston by giving new layed eggs away free. I git a rubber stamp from WHs And stamped the eggs County Bookmakers we lay anything. |

By:
I didnt know you were a Greyhound Bookie as well
Ho sorry I thought you said Bags. |
By:
Leslie Steele in the North, Graham Green in the Midlands, and Dudley in the South I always respected.
Betting next to would be somebody who attracts crowds. In about 1967 I saw John Banks betting the back row in the Epsom Spring Meeting. The crowd round him was so big, the ones either side and in front were picking up some surplus without tugging. Not sure I would want to bet on course at all these days. |
By:
wumpkins.fletcher used to be one of the best for betting next door to,he would play the game and bet sweet.but this last couple of years he just takes everything.he will think nothing of betting to 104% on a 12 runner race.he seems thick skinned also.
By:
i dont care who i bet next too for prices ..but cant stand loudmouths who like sound of own voice
By:
artful - he gotta be thick skinned with all the abuse he gets
