how do you recognise value

is there any simple definition of value

or is it simply the bookies that lay such that value dissappears most bets?

you will only win in horse racing if you BACK horses regularly that are OVERPRICED , or LAY horses that are UNDER PRICED on a regular basis .
there are many winning strategies , its the discipline thats the killer .

Brian are you willing to post a list of horses that are under or over priced on a daily basis,
then we can do a little audit to see if your statistical thinking is correct?

There is no need - the band of horses i lay are underpriced on the whole , there are many a losing day , many a losing week and occasionally the odd losing month but NEVER a losing year and as soon as you take the BUZZ element from your gambling and turn it into an INVESTMENT you will be ok .
