They dont want racing at Ayr - they want houses - but couldnt get permission - sadly looks like they are running it down to the point where they might get their wish
Report SEVENNIL April 16, 2010 3:29 PM BST
This happened last year same day same race (i think) - no pics here - is it on the bottom bend - it was slippy ground last year.

Whats the chances??
Report fairweather April 16, 2010 3:29 PM BST
Your name had just reminded me what the ground there reminds me of, Mr Holmes...

The Grimpen Mire!

Report waterrat April 16, 2010 3:33 PM BST
How come they didn't find the problem when checking the going prior to racing?
Report citizen kane April 16, 2010 3:35 PM BST

If they build a 6 storey block of flats on that, it will
sink and become a bungalow. (nice basements though)

I think the Saw Doctors have had to arrive by ferry - not by plane due to Icelands Revenge - and will be late statring after racing Ayr Racecourse have dreamt this up to ensure that the racing stops in time for the Saw Doctors starting.

I wish I was there this year again :(

Its funny that this has started to occur after GPT was introduced!!!, i may be wrong but i can't remember Ayr having these kind of problems every year before around 2002-anyone else????
Report Outpost April 16, 2010 3:59 PM BST
it all provides more ammo for zil when he speaks to the BHA.

there is no way there should be any ground problems on GOOD going.

AYR going - Good (overwatered in places)
Report flyingbolt April 16, 2010 4:02 PM BST
GPT ? THAT ISN'T THE PROBLEM.
THE OBSESSION WITH SO CALLED "SAFE GROUND" IS THE PROBLEM. ONE DAY THEY MAY REALISE THAT OVERWATERED GROUND IS ABOUT AS UNSAFE AS IT GETS.
Report zilzal1 April 16, 2010 4:05 PM BST
Bit of both i think FB, one is used as a smokescreen for the other on many occasions. Trouble being is that more easy ground horses are now being bred, tends to make it a vicious circle in the end.........

Ayr probably need to start all over again as long term it does seem to crop up every year now, unless its the volcanic ash to blame :-)
