Yep, simply epitomises what is wrong with the sport atm, racecourses far more happy to attract/entertain stag do types rather than genuine racing fans. Spose the theory is more drink sold = more profit for the course and the more drunk punters are = bigger bets for the firms. Last meeting I was at things didn't quite work like that tho, with a dozen**sheads failing to watch one single race or place one single bet, then causing mayham at the end which muct have cost the course double what they made on the booze sales - great plan!!
Good on them trying to get more people into the races
Why not offer 2 for 1 meal deals then?? This is not really about trying to attract more people to the races, it's about attemting to make more profit from**sheads who have no interest in the sport, whilst saying the the genuine enthusiast "up yours"

If we look at horse racing depicted in art we can see that horse racing has always attracted drunks and "ne'er do wells". Take 'Derby Day', by William Powell Frith. Were we to see such scenes today, some people would choke on their home made cheese sandwiches.

Are you not aware of the ammount of trouble in Chester after racing. 2 murders in the past 5 years. They are tying to encourage people to drink more. in my opinion they should be encouraged to drink less. It should be about the racing. The may meeting will be a sell out anyway , so its not to encourage new racegoers. its all about profit.

The bastarts trying to get punters drunk early so they throw their money away.
I used to live in Chester and it was a nice meeting to attend for about 20 years. I dont go anymore as too many pis$heads about. Quite a few meeting are the same but with Chester being so small and cramped its impossilbe to get too far away from them so you notice it more.

I dont agree. It will encourage groups to just go earlier than normal. they will get it into their heads that if they go earlier and get trollied before 1 they wont have to drink when racings on. but they will. and it will all end in tears.

These people will drink regardless of offers at the track, its clearly what they want to do. The question is that if they can be controlled/contained to behave on the racetrack in a reasonable funn manner then should they be encouraged to go racing? I think the answer is yes, on the whole they are out for fun and at least they are spending money at the tracks.
The days of filling grandstands with 100% pure racing enthuiasts is long gone, we need a wider demographic of peiople to be involved at different levels.

Agree with Davy again.
Stop the drinkers & you empty the courses. Chester is unique in that it is actually in the town, with the pubs a very short walk away. This just gets them drinking in the course rather than the town. I have no problem with people drinking at the courses provided it is correctly controlled and policed so as not to spoil the day of others.

we dont drink resonsibile (well some) in the UK..thats the problem...its deeper than Chester doing discount drinks..I would like to think Im resonsible and I dont go into a pub thats doing 2 for 1 and think"good I can drink twice my normal amount today" I would tend to think I can drink the same amout but at half the cost. But some folk dont think that way
The only problem I can see with this is people buying their afternoon's quota early & leaving them on the floor/walls etc & getting knocked over and causing aggro.
York have a good system at the bars. They only allow you to buy 2 drinks each (I think it is) plus there is a crowd flow system which prevents pushing in & means everyone gets served in a timely fashion. If you have a big round you just need to take some mates with you.

mydogs - do you think they will be sober without the offer? Get real. Also, unlike the racecourse bars, we dont serve them if they are hammered.
following lead from Greyhound Racing - if it wasn't for party crowd that game would be totally dead, maybe racing realising that they need extra revenue now!
I was thinking of treating the family to a hospitality day 4 course meal, nice seats.....Worked out at £1000 for four....Looks like a pub meal and tats is the way to go!!!
