This ia an interesting one -- I dont back horses very often on betfair as i think bookmakers offer better liquidity and variety and normally better early odds in the round. What do you think?
I think betfair is a brilliant institution- But the lack of liquidity early on needs sorting- my suggestion would be to offer commision for layers of 1% for laying horses in advance of 2 hours before the race. not chaging them 2-5% for having the bballs to bet early.

was with betfair some years ago......too easy to press a key and do a 100 or so....so getting 2 screens in bookies for diffrent meetings ..its ok..bet more modestly with bit more success...so far.

As long as you are not 'too good' the bog concession makes the bookies more attractive. 'Luckily' I am not 'too good' yet. My ambition is to be like all the heroes coming on here moaning (bragging) about how they can't get on.
They bet on the dirty each way races, get restricted. On here the place markets are not nearly so generous so they are screwed, and naturally the moaning starts.

For the past couple of years BF prices have been pathetic from the night before until half an hour before the race, then they improve past the books. If you have to go to work all you can do is leave bets and hope they get taken.

Does not help when you ask for a price at 4.30 in the morning only for the never sleeping bot to come along and under cut you within 10 seconds, must put a lot of people off asking for early prices. Maybe if all bots were switched off until one hour before the first race.

If they want to increase early liquidity they should either hide the numbers in the bet queue or make any bets struck before mid day unable to be closed out for a profit...

the early betfair markets easy to manipulate and the bookmakers follw it religiously. yesterday in the southwell bumper i managed to drive the price of one from 33-1 - 7-1 without backing or laying a horse. thats how silly its got. I then layed it all morning - its sp 14-1

Don't knock a site for being good at what it does! If the bookies price is better, TAKE IT! If you can manipulate a price, DO IT! ( Without inside info ) The bookies market is global and it doesn't, matter what the Yanks try to do. The take on here , including premium, is almost always the lowest in the world! If we want to make it lower, just all stop betting for a couple of months!

But Tipp the odds -- I assure you i did it -- its one way to use the bookmakers againt the machine to make a quid. Grim knows - you can move a bookmakers price in 1 minute believe me - they have a system - the computer susses a cute punter restricts them to shillings - then when he comes on trying to get real dosh on they say max £12.50 and cos your a face - they automatically move the price.

Oh well here goes i know all the "yeah course you do grim" merchants will be on but diddles is right.
If i or any other marks they have got want to be on a horse you can play the bluff game with BAC,or the leeds mob, but laddies BAC are the best /worst at it, they'll end up following you in with hills korals etc and the waterfall effects start. Traders smash prices up more than anyone else in the mornings.
Get as much on as you want and then let them know that you wanna be on, they will smash it up for you. clueless robots.

Grim I had this chat with a Ladbrokes area manger s few years back when he finally gave me a red card - i said its unfair that you take on the innocent - he simply replied - would you like to take your bets then ? Cos we don't. As long as there are lots of shops and as many large bookmakers around - both you and i will get our bets on. I have been barred from my village Corals 4 times - as soon as my mate from the barbers shop tells me theres a new manager i get back in for a while pmsl. I guess if was easier it would be boring. But providing you have enough mates and their mates - they cant stop us beating them. Hats off to the big 3 without you all id be looking for emplyment.

I think we if we could all get on we would all bet in the bookies, the fact that anyone who has a clue cannot get on anymore means we have all ended up here .

not if you work hard and employ others they cant beat everyone up at once. Its like war - they can shoot a solidier but if you have an amy lined up they run out of bulletts.

yes i agree and there are some very smart people on here -- some with great minds but lower targets. If you want to make a living its easier to do battle with the bookmakers whos staff are betting with the bosses money - than to take on the brains on here and pay the tax

All in all when you get down to brass tacks - the clever ones win and the daft ones lose ok - so if you beat the daft ones @ the bookmakers or on here the cash comes from losing punters not bookmakers or betfair. so my theory is that the 5% makes life easier betting with bookmakers - who as we know from saturdays exposure take up to 50% from the daft ones.

Grim has an answer - its in collective thinking and battling with the bookmakers with a well drilled army of clued up punters. Assisted by a well drilled army of assistant pupils - easy innit

diddles - Almost every manager I meet bets. I usually only meet the manager when the minimum wage eye candy sees a bet of over £100 on a horse and calls him. The last manager I met who had a clue worked in my local bookies. ( He bet the horses I bet ) I walked into my local ( nearest ) bookies with approx £250 in my pocket just after my team had won ( BIG WIN AGAINST LEAGUE LEADERS ). I was drunk and clearly so. I walked out of the bookies with approx £5000 Just pure luck! 2 Days later on the Monday they refused to take a bet from me of £5 win ( my mums bet ) on a 7/2 shot? I don't think I moved any odds on the Saturday and after the Monday, I never entered the shop again. ( It is now closed and up for sale ) I have never seen that manager since the Monday. ( No bets from him! Instructions from management apparently )
