salmon i aint getting into an argument on here,i come on here mainly to discuss bookmaking issues and the odd reminisce of old racehorses, characters etc, i just think its pointless, you get the same argument and the usual suspects moaning about the price on here and the sp,its a free market and i cant see much changing, i love my job and consider myself extremely lucky and am also of the opinion that 99% of punters on here are staying here and dont blame and can see no point pandying to them as i doubt our paths will cross,i know the people i have to look after to protect my business and i very much doubt they post on here.

truth is adge it,s been shown up for what it is in a high profile race, bookie,s who they bet with quite happy to take the earn today and play ball by shortening the s.p, that might be ok when you,re bettin at southall and u lay a 700/400 and then go 6/4 cos ur just happy to strike a bet but looks a tad embarrising in the national. Is there any truth in the rumour that regit was returning these s.ps?

i was there on thursday some books deserve credit but not all for instance in big bucks race many where betting without the fav one book who had the pitch on the end of the line as you walk into the ring was going evens tidal bay if you walked 10 yards you could get 7/4 the one laying evens was taking nearly all the money off the uneducated because he had the prime site i was astounded but it just shows you as the old property saying goes location location location.

When they announced over the tannoy it had been backed into 10/1 fav I checked my board & it was 16/1. I too was 14/1 at the off. If the horse could be backed in the ring to win fortunes at 14/1 then surely the SP mechanism is stupid if it comes up with 10/1.

Isn't this one of the most important areas that the Gambling Commission should be looking at?

it was the best backed in the race as mccoy always is but many bets of £2.50 each way just make for a long payout queue.
this would be the same the country over.

i'm sure from my observations plus my course friends that the correct s.p should have been 14/1 [ backed from an opening 20/1 ] but we don't have a say in returned prices.

I'm not accusing any bookies of being dishonest, just wondering how they pick which books to calculate the SP from, i.e. how many bookies, and so on.

If they only take a few then it presumably is much easier to squeeze a price down. If there were many bookies used it would be a lot trickier. By the sounds of things, the majority of bookies were offering 14/1+ on the winner yet their odds get ignored.

so where do i bet im number 10 in the ring ?...........the question implies that youve not laid 12 to the firms and maybe traded back at 18 on here ,i say maybe because you have stated that you dont back horses back so your more than happy to lay 12 a 18 chance which i can see makes sense ....i.e. if yoy lay 2-1 a 3-1 chance than theorectically speaking long term you must win ....but you bet in the ring for a long time now havent you and you know with experience that with a pick number of 10 you can choose basically where to go ,so i assume you picked the right place ,not the right place to be involved in the s.p. market i may state ..........so i dont quite understand whats the point ya trying to say or prove ...it wouldnt be too hard to find out where the s.p. was taken from so next year why dont you trade there then when laddys come in 15 mins before the off and trade 3-4-5 horses in the national youll be able to get them in at the appropiate rate that suits you ........but id taken a little evens next year your more than happy to bet in the same spot you bet this year .......the 12 in the sp are more than happy to play ball with the firms ,we know that dont we ,you all prove time and time again in mid-week that your happy to lie in bed with them .........because if you dont they cut you out of the will then go squealing to sp reporters that your not prepared to lay a bet

jw, number 10 wouldn`t get you to bet in the SP 12.
I should think they take 6 from Tatts and 6 from the
Rails, though I`m not totally sure.

over rounds of 150% are equivalent to loan shark rates - you have to laugh at the bookmakers case against exchanges when left to themselves they treat the voting public this way.

The whole system is a mess. Course bookmakers can't make a consistent and dependable living from bread n butter everyday stuff and political pressure from yesterday will make them the whipping boys.

Here's my forecast for the 2015 GN

On course tote monopoly with every 'product' haveing a pre-declared and well advertised deduction %

New SP system based on analysis of bets in off-course shops and online business

All redundant on course bookies trading on Betfair
