Maybe - although I rather doubt it - as Bangor is a bit close, in racecourse terms/mileage to Aintree.
Think you are remembering CUP FINAL day, to be honest.

Have you never bet in the GN Onlooker, agree that its very difficult now(klots of chances), but it used to be faifly easy to analyse and get down to 6/7 who could reasonably be expected to go close. Theses days probably 20 with a dcent shout!

I don't back Chaser at all, stewarts - not my forte, mate. - just Hurdlers and the Flat.
Obviously had a couple of bets in the National in years gone by, but never every year.
In fact i backed Mr Snugfit 7 times ante-post, and stood to win several grand, the year it led at the elbow and got caught.
That rather sickened me for life with the race - especially as Anne Duchess of Westminster only ran the 50/1 winner because her other fancied horse had to be pulled out injured. :(
Got the repeat of the agony a few years later , with an identical scenario with Gold Cup winner Garison Savannah being caught by Seagram.
Never had a bet in the race since.
'Twice bitten ....' to paraphrase.
Lumped on Pedlars in the first, though. contrived after-timing at it's best. :)
