Have they put 30 mm on overnight ?
Report loper April 10, 2010 10:19 AM BST
You'd think that Ollie Bell should be knowledgeable enough to question what he is reading off an auto que, ffs.

From Dave Ord's blog on SL:

1005: Breaking news. We have a going change. We're now good to soft, good in places on the National Course (from good to soft yesterday) and good, good to soft in places on the Mildmay and Hurdles Courses from good yesterday.

Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch reports: "We watered after racing yesterday. The only section of the Grand National course to be watered was around the 13th and 14th fences in the straight.

"The straights of the Mildmay and Hurdle courses were watered, with between three and four millimetres put on. The bends on those courses have been moved to provide fresh ground."

Deaths occur because some of them are going too fast for their own ability, they aint feckin Crisp or Suny Bay as their jumping tells you

Ground looked fine

Loper, ive been saying for years that the official going is often bollux
Report flyingbolt April 10, 2010 10:30 AM BST
You are correct about official going reports,Zilzal but I think Loper's point is that RUK have given the incorrect going report.
Report loper April 10, 2010 10:30 AM BST
Good morning, Zilzal1.

It's not the official going that is the problem here. It is the incompetence of RacingUK for putting up the wrong going report.

Also an indictment of having a 12yo presenting a specialist racing program, as he read out the going without any thought that it must be wrong.
Report loper April 10, 2010 10:31 AM BST
Correct, Flyingbolt!
Report loper April 10, 2010 10:36 AM BST
Oh dear!

Nev hasn't questioned the wrong going report either!!!
Report zilzal1 April 10, 2010 10:43 AM BST
AAH, sorry i wasnt watching at present as polishing off a cheese toastie whilst looking at Newmarket next week!!!

Osana doesnt win that many at this level, does he??, think that the Nicholls one will go close in that race, although ive a little sneaky feeling that the Fahey animal will be there if it gets a clear round and is priced quite big(or was at 33-1)
Report Palmer April 10, 2010 10:47 AM BST
So what is the going then?!
Report Sweep Toast Vole April 10, 2010 10:49 AM BST
Good morning Loper.

Given your thread yesterday about people's vitriol towards those on the telly, is this rather harsh outburst for a minor indiscretion not a smite hypocritical?
Report loper April 10, 2010 11:18 AM BST
Good morning, Sweep Toast Vole.

No.

Aintree going

THE going for the John Smith's Grand National has been described as good to soft, good in places after officials watered the famous track.

That is a slight change from the overnight report of good to soft, while the going on the Midlmay and hurdle courses is good, good to soft in places from good.
Report infomaniac April 10, 2010 12:30 PM BST
If they haven't watered, the going cannot be any worse than good imo.

Clerk's view

"We put three to four millimetres of water on," clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch said.

changed again - now gd, g/s places on g nat cse and good all round elsewhere
Report infomaniac April 10, 2010 12:34 PM BST
Aah yes, missed that :D

anyway, with nonstop sunshine until 2 o'clock, I predict good going this afternoon no matter what they say !
Report efisio. April 10, 2010 12:41 PM BST
Can't understand why anybody would want to know what the official going is. What you need is the true going, not the official one.
