My Mrs insists on going to the betting shop only once a year to put her and the kids bets on for the grand national. I explained that I can getter better odds online but she likes going to the bookies to put them on as its tradition!!! Not financialy viable but what the hell. Any more people like that out there?
In the past I've put bets on for kids / Mrs etc and they generally manage to win something whilst mine falls at the first. You then have to give them cash for their winnings yet if they lose they are unlikely to give you cash for the bet. Let them go to the bookies

Coleen Rooney yesterday "I backed the winner last year at 50/1". So there you go, offer to put on the bets for your other half, and if it returns 100/1 like Mon Mome last year, keep the profit for yourself. Everyone's a winner.
