Report ashleigh • April 9, 2010 6:21 PM BST

Report saddo • April 9, 2010 6:22 PM BST
Sorry to hear that, thanks.
Report Facts • April 9, 2010 6:23 PM BST
to paraphrase

..in this game it happens. Its dreadful, it hurts and nothing he could say will make it better for connections. Equally, nothing he could say will stop the potential happening again.
Report jayce • April 9, 2010 6:24 PM BST
also said iff u make the devils pact u have to expect these things.
Report GEORGE.B • April 9, 2010 6:25 PM BST
Thanks, Facts.

Bet no-one has ever trotted out those lines before, ffs.
Report Facts • April 9, 2010 6:28 PM BST
i'm sure graham would be the first to acknowledge, that nothing he was saying could be considered profound !
Report Breeding Iriot • April 9, 2010 6:32 PM BST
I think he's pretty sensible but it's waving the white flag a bit.

We should do something about it - not by ruining the game, but by tweaking the conditions / obstacles to minimise (you can't totally eradicate the dangers) the problems that have resulted in too many deaths today.
Report Facts • April 9, 2010 6:33 PM BST
For example ?
Report Cider • April 9, 2010 6:33 PM BST
Some scenes in Ireland recently and Aintree today do make one question whether jump racing is a justifiable sport, imho.
Report Breeding Iriot • April 9, 2010 6:35 PM BST
1. Don't let amateurs / unqualified pilots ride the course
2. Maintain a slow-ish surface on the National course (sorry if you own a fast ground horse)
3. Sort the fences out so that horses / jockeys pay more respect

That's top of my head. I am sure there are more / better ones.
Report verbotene liebe • April 9, 2010 6:36 PM BST
Many of those who would have been calling for jump racing to be abolished on the grounds of horse welfare are now too occupied in saving the planet.
Report Facts • April 9, 2010 6:36 PM BST
Fences have already been significantly modified
Report Breeding Iriot • April 9, 2010 6:37 PM BST
Facts - they've been modified so that jockey's treat them like any other fence. They aren't.
Report Rooster Senior • April 9, 2010 6:37 PM BST
Let's turn it into a flat race on carpet - oh why we're at it let's not use horses anymore but race round at 8 mph on mobilty scooters (with crash helmets of course).
Report Facts • April 9, 2010 6:40 PM BST
Bi
tbf - I don't think they do.
We've had all this before - and some years are worse than others. I agree its usually when the track is riding on the fast side of good.
Report Brother Mouzone • April 9, 2010 6:42 PM BST
They should find a way to have horses racing without having obstacles to jump.
Report Ken O'sback • April 9, 2010 6:42 PM BST

Thats the same at cheltenham they been softened up too much
Report Cider • April 9, 2010 6:43 PM BST
I can't think of many other sports that you can virtually guarantee some of the participants (animals) will perish. Their skeletons are not strong enough to take the pressure of falling or pounding the ground during and after the effort of jumping a fence/hurdle. No amount of modification will change that fact.
Report Rooster Senior • April 9, 2010 6:45 PM BST
Good grief
Report kingfisher 23 • April 9, 2010 6:46 PM BST
They are destroyed because their bones dont nip together like a humans
Report DOCTOR EVIL • April 9, 2010 10:35 PM BST
are these horses covered by insurance whilst racing?
