I was standing beside David Chapman and the owner of another runner one day at Musselburgh as they discussed the draw. The owner thought that his highly drawn horse had no chance but Chapman mantained that it made no difference. Cant remember the horses names now but I had actually backed them both and done the Exacta. I had nearly not gone that day as I had had a funny heartbeat for 24 hours. That race got it back into rythm with a photo finish that gave me a 10/1 winner and the Exacta. Freddie Williams alway believed that the high draw was against them and usually laid them accordingly

Strangely enough it seems to be more of an advantage than when its gd'fm there as opposed to over the yeaars when you couldn't go against lows on decent ground. And meetings like yarmouth and haydock the stands side rails were impossible to beat, you hardly ever see winners against the stand side at yarmouth now. Very similar at notts although highs have the advantage, nothing like it used to be.
