the coverage is shocking for the amount spent on it, I would cut half the presenters, half the experts, half the aging commentators and half the stupid camera-angles cameramen. The overall coverage would be far superior and they'd have more of our money left to cover a few more meetings.

Sure makes you appreciate Weaver and Meerkat.

Aussies Jim commentary on the 2.35 was priceless.

Don't think he was watching and lost the ability to talk.

Watched it in HD , thought it was brilliant, does make the picture so much more clearer,a lot of the commentary was not good though. Ironic as HD gets going their coverage is reduced to about 12 days a year.

sounded like there was a cricket chirping and then a woodpecker tapping when they entered the home straight ;)

It was truly disgraceful, no other word for it. A channel that gives free reign to sycophantic people who are clueless but love being on the gravy train. Jim McGrath should be ashamed of himself for his efforts today especially.
Report Mustapha Bath April 8, 2010 9:29 PM BST
Its a great sight to see the Horses land over Bechers, they showed
the take off today, makes the fence look very plain. That should
keep the "antis" happy. Also showed the canal turn from the
landing side. Misses the corner being cut and how wide some run.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed by Saturday.
Report Mustapha Bath April 8, 2010 9:32 PM BST
Chapoturgeon was very well fancied, Grey and carrying very
well known colours. McGrath did not realise that it was badly
brought down until about 2 fences later.

Agreed called the wrong horse iniitially when it was obvious to anyone with a basic knowledge of racing it was Johnson's colours.Time he went back to Oz- he is on a par with Cat in the commentary stakes IMO.

BBC need to revamp their team imo. Bring in some new faces. Too many old fossils that miss too much

It was dire - in every aspect !
Report Fabulous April 8, 2010 10:31 PM BST
Facts...........spot on! Every aspect was wrong. What is it with the new camera angles, they're terrbile, especially bechers, and as for the backing tape with the hooves, and the hurdles getting cracked, it is just wrong, and so obviously false. JM was not interested, still can't believe that 235 commentary.
Report dananders April 8, 2010 10:43 PM BST
i found it ridiculous that the champion staying hurdler and the best horse in training didnt get a mention until 1 min before it actually ran disgrace. aussie jim told us all the prices then parrot and wilsher would tell us again str8 away and fat wilshere would tell us that ladcrooks were laying 30 grand bets on big bucks . ful of sh it he is hes not fooling any 1
Report Pounf April 8, 2010 10:50 PM BST
Have to say Bechers is nowhere near as daunting as it used to be. The landing side has a very gentle incline now.

I dont want any injuries, but dont want the beeb going on about what a great fence, when it patently isnt any more

Loved McGrath's commentary in the big race. Kept insisting the two front-runners were cutting each other's throats yet the pace was pedestrian, as Dunwoody kept pointing out.

The "Aussie" was probably soaked in pi*s(free,of course, probably courtesy of Fraud Duvalle),by the time Chapoturgeon fell.

I watched all the BBC covergae in the pub,it was ok, they need to show a little ore bettign though
Report fawwon April 9, 2010 12:08 AM BST
They could do with a few more presenters and pundits
Report the beast April 9, 2010 12:22 AM BST
They could probably do with getting 3 or 4 people that know anything about horse racing.
Report Elsie Ephsey April 9, 2010 12:36 AM BST
The camera angles gave the impression of someone dabbling in a school photogrpahy project, with the exception of the canal turn which would have been an improvement if the camera hadn't cut away at the point it did. A very poor effort by the beeb - if it ain't broke, don't try and**it. And the sound of a cavalry when half a dozen horses are running is plain unnecessary.
