Watch it for yourself - take my word for it that it was run on a friday - can't find anything to verify it. How the band kept playing throughout the race I don't know. Great stuff.

The 1957 Grand National was won by eleven year-old "Sundew" on the 29th of March with the horse being ridden by Fred Winter who had raced in the National on three previous occasions, failing to finish each time. The horse was owned by Mrs. Geoffrey Kohn who was the third female owner in three years to win the Grand National following on from Mrs. W Welman in 1955 and Mrs. Leonard Carver in 1956.

couldn't agree more - I **cing hate the **s - its obscene how much they earn - sometimes for being on the bench for weeks or injured for months. Of course they're not all the same and I shouldn't generalise but when I think how some people have to live it makes me angry.

cj180. I backed Sundew that day 25/1 if memory serves me right. I listened to it on the radio at work. One of our directors came downstairs to ask who had won. I told him and he asked if I had backed it. He said that he had as well, his name was Denman:-) I had backed it in the earlier years as well. On one of those years he landed on top of a fence, possibly The Chair.
