The Grand National was always run on a Friday for 'donkeys years' - excuse the pun.
Te main race on Saturday was the Grand Sefton Chase. |

Lovely Cottage ridden by Capt Petre was 25/1 the 3rd in the race was the giant Prince Regent 12/7 as against the winners 10/9
There were many loose horses along side PrinceRregent when he made is run on the 2nd circuit he was forced to go a lot faster than he wanted and the 3/1 favourite was still clear at the last still in front at the elbo he was a spent horse and had nothing left when firstly attacked and passed by Lovely Cottage and then Jack Finley. cibone |

Watch it for yourself - take my word for it that it was run on a friday - can't find anything to verify it. How the band kept playing throughout the race I don't know. Great stuff.

!961 was the only grey to win the race other the THE LAMB
it was rather lucky that he did so as a team of dopers were set on doping several horses they sent a beautiful French women to go round several trainers to ask if they would train one of her horses She noted what box this horse was,in and two day later on the Friday night they doped the grey they thought was Nicholas but the cunning Rimell had swapped his national runner with another grey. |

it was on a Friday. that is what i infered when the Prime minister asked Topham to change from Friday to saturday in 1947

Aintree Grand National 1957
The 1957 Grand National was won by eleven year-old "Sundew" on the 29th of March with the horse being ridden by Fred Winter who had raced in the National on three previous occasions, failing to finish each time. The horse was owned by Mrs. Geoffrey Kohn who was the third female owner in three years to win the Grand National following on from Mrs. W Welman in 1955 and Mrs. Leonard Carver in 1956. 29th March 1957 was a Friday. |
