the question is why take a pull in a slowly run race just before the home turn and allow the others come alongside, if in that position any competent jockey would have kicked for home

When Ray Goldstein was the top jock at plumpton he won so many races by kicking on from the top of the back straight,clearly King Edmond wasnt wanted.
