If you read my Royal Ascot thread you'll know that I was all over Time For Sandals for the Commonwealth Cup which she won impressively and I am racking my brains as to why she is as big as 25/1 for the Haydock Sprint Cup. I have no idea what the running plans are so the usual ante post caveats apply but I have been unable to resist a decent wager.
At Ascot she travelled like much the best horse in the race but had to take it up a long way out on the far side and was probably getting a bit lonely late on. It seems like Haydock would suit her ideally and unless it came up a bog I'm not bothered about the ground.
The Commonwealth Cup form has been well franked with the 2nd and 4th winning impressively since and her previous run in France, where she was touched off in the last stride by Woodshauna, also looks better now with that horse going on to win the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat. The July Cup hardly set the world alight so I would be disappointed if she can't beat that lot.
I get Lazzat being favourite, and he should be running next week in the Prix Maurice De Gheest which he won last year. However assuming this is the plan for Time For Sandals I'd have her second best in the market.
She is entered for the 5f race at Goodwood but that is only a Group 2 and is 5f downhill so not sure I see the appeal. She is also in the Nunthorpe. She hasn't really struck me as being a proper 5f type but I wouldn't rule her out at York if that is where they choose to go.
This is the target for Lazzat and the race at Deauville, then the Champion back at Ascot, trainer says he travelled enough last year and happy to stay in Europe. Wants to look after him and get the best for the next couple of seasons as he’s no longer a stallion prospect.
Another one has this ear marked, will see how it’s trial goes.

Well they rolled the dice and ran under a penalty in the Goodwood race. Ran well but never quite quick enough to land a blow as I intimated. After the race the trainer seemed to have listened to me Eustace said: “Today, more than anything, was to see how competitive she could be under those conditions under a penalty, back to five furlongs on a sharp track, and she certainly looked at home. "Over five furlongs you need everything to go right. She just couldn’t quite get herself into the gap she needed to I think, but she had another go at them, which is pretty unusual. I was very happy. "My gut feeling watching that was to go to Haydock Park (for the Sprint Cup) as she looks more at home over six furlongs. We will let the dust settle and see.”

Thanks for the post Delashay. Sadly her fate was sealed by the clerk of the course. I would have hoped that this sort of thing was a thing of the past after all the flak they used to get under Kirkland Tellwright but sadly not.
The golden highway up the stands rail was forecast pre-race by the penetrometer readings and so it proved - just look at the later races for more proof.
She'd beaten the winner comfortably on her last two starts so definitely a case of one that got away - typical of my luck.
Not sure if she will run again this season but I'll be looking to have a good antepost bet on her at decent odds for the Golden Jubilee (or whatever they call it these days) at Royal Ascot 2026

Unfortunately it’s not a thing of the past and those who don’t like AP will say you take your chance with draw and ground which is true, but all this manipulation of tracks isn’t on. Good luck Uncle.
